At the beginning of this book I should like to put forth a definition of our enemy who wills us evil and death: he is a Muslim who interprets the holy Quran to say that all infidels (non Muslims) must be either converted or they must be destroyed by God’s will. That means a violent war by any means necessary, including terrorism as a just means to achieve this divinely intended end. With such an enemy, there can be no negotiation, no compromise, no modus vivendi, no co-existence - by definition. They are the sworn enemies of every American and of the West which for the most part is non Muslim and has no intention of becoming Muslim.
The problem is that this enemy is present everywhere in the world including the U.S. and we do not really have the means to distinguish the “good” Muslim (those who wish to live in peace with infidels in tolerance and under our system of laws) and “bad” Muslims who wish our death and the death of our whole system of government and values. The problem for us is double: we cannot distinguish between the two since there is no authoritative central authority in Islam to tell us which is correct and America is as an open society so that the “bad” Muslims can easily hide in mosques until such time when it is appropriate for them to strike by violent means (“sleepers”). Hence this double danger confronts us in this country and abroad in a very important but delicate operation of protecting the American people from this covert enemy who does belong to Islam.

Thus the main question here in this book is to describe who is our enemy, what are his methods and ends and how to protect ourselves from such an enemy. In other words, we must first define/name our enemy and then describe his ends and intent. Only then can we prepare ourselves to do battle with him.
