I was on my way
Did she know that I loved her, did she know that I cared?
I ask myself if she called out for me when she noticed that I wasn’t there.
Even though we weren’t there yet I wonder if my brother could feel something was wrong deep inside.
On our way I wonder if he could feel that I felt she had somehow died.
I get upset at times because I’m not sure if she went while in pain.
I bet I could’ve somehow made her feel better if she just would’ve heard my name.
Did she try to wait, did she try to fight, or did she just look forward to heaven and follow the light?
Those are some of the questions I bug myself with when I’m alone or trying to sleep at night.
Did someone hold her hand as she went, did anyone sing her a song?
I can’t help to wonder if she had company or if she went alone as the lord called her on home.
In the pit of my stomach I had a feeling that she was already gone.
But there was no way in hell God would punish me like that and keep me from seeing my mom.
I could see a change in my brother’s eyes as he drove faster down the road.
Me being the youngest I still felt more for my family because I wasn’t sure how they would hold.
So I prayed and I prayed that just maybe when we got to the house my mom would be okay.
Then something inside of me grabbed my heart and told me to hurry because this was her day.
I began to think about all the times I could’ve called her or could’ve visited her.
I thought to myself “Lord, please, you got to give me this chance to tell her I love her!”
My brother and I arrived at my grandmother’s house before everyone else but still we were too late.
I know it was no ones fault but in my heart was nothing but pain and hate.
We all were gathered around her with tears in our eyes in a room of silence with nothing to say.
So I grabbed her hand and said “I love you mom” then kissed her on the cheek and whispered in her ear “I was on my way.”

About the Book
My book is a book of poetry mainly inspired by my mother. I started writting because it helped me deal with my pain and handle all of my emotions. There was a time in my life when I felt I really couldn't take to much more but writing poetry is honestly what kept me alive and continues to carry me through life. The book is broken up into four chapters, love, Jesus, mom, and friends. Each of those categories influenced this book and my life, rather it was in a negative way or positive way. The begininng of each chapter will explain the impact that it had on my life to give the readers a better understand about the poems they're going to read through out the chapter.
About the Author
When Andre' Jackson was growing up he wrote poetry for fun. That was before a tragic event had occured in is life and his mother had passed away when he was 17 years old. The death of his mom affected other aspects of his life, it affected the way he loved, it even made a difference in how he felt about Christ, and taught him to appreciate and care for his friends and family more than he had before. And that's when poetry was no longer fun for him but became a comforter and acted as a therapy treatment. He'd lose sleep and stay up for hours on top of hours writing and could never rest until the poems were completely finished. Andre' truely feels if he didn't have this talent and wasn't able to write poetry then he wouldn't have mad it this far in his life.
