She squirmed harder, trying to knock him off . Wes pressed down on her to stop the squirming and brought the scissors up in the air again. It seemed to Malina he moved in slow motion. His eyes were black and dark, like two evil beads. He inhaled with an evil hiss.
“Put the scissors down, Wes.” Malina said, her voice even. She stared at her husband. Her wrists, still held tight, had been moved off to one side.
“No!” he hissed in a drunken sneer.
“Wes, put the scissors down, please.” Malina repeated, hoping her calmness would touch something inside him. Maybe reach past the evil, and nudge the man she loved.
In a flash, Wes sat up straight, let out a yell, and brought the scissors down hard and fast! Malina tried to scream, but nothing came out. She closed her eyes and stiffened her legs, preparing for what she was unable to stop. Malina felt Wes’s body lean forward, she felt the searing pain as the scissors penetrated her skin, the cold steel sliding inside her, thrusting deeper and deeper. The air was sucked out of her lungs, she tossed her head from side to side, wiggling as hard as she could, using every ounce of strength she had left. She fought with all her might, as she envisioned the scissors protruding out of the hole in her neck. Malina’s body gave one last heave upwards, feeling light, and went further up than she anticipated.
