Saturday morning – 9:36 a.m.
“Larnell?”
“Yes?”
“We’ve been seeing each other for almost a year.”
He sighed, turned back towards her, his eyes studying her. “And?”
“So, why haven’t you made a commitment?”
“We’ve been over this before, Arronda. I told you, we need to give this a little more time.”
Tears welled into her eyes. She was good enough to screw but not good enough to marry. She didn’t want him for money – she made good money, working at a bank. She wanted his love. She had two daughters, ages seven and nine. She would be turning thirty, next month and still had not found a man that wanted to marry her. When she met him, she knew he was the one. If only she could coax him into giving her a ring, she would be the happiest woman in the world. She was in love. Most men considered her beautiful but she couldn’t understand why he didn’t see it. She’d tried dating a couple of other guys after meeting Larnell but nobody measured up to him. Either they weren’t as tall or handsome. Or they didn’t sound like him when they spoke or didn’t have his extremely male persona. Other than that, they didn’t have his muscular build. For a man of forty-one, he carried the body of one in his late twenties. Where could she find another Larnell Torrington? She didn’t want any of the men that wanted her – because they weren’t anything like him.
Larnell wasn’t considered nice, but she didn’t want a “nice guy”. She wanted one that carried himself with one-hundred percent masculinity. Nice guys were weak, as far as she was concerned. Above all, she wanted what she knew she couldn’t have, which caused her to desire him even more.
