Most human beings have an inclination of what they want to become by the time they reach young adulthood. Some dream of being Astronauts or the next President of the United States while other aspirations may not land on such a grand scale. For some with hard work and dedication, these dreams turn into reality, while others may end up taking a completely different path in life defending on what life has dished out for them. The latter sometimes is efficient for the person who is content enough to accept the circumstances that had brought them to their present lifestyle. While others become unfulfilled in their mundane daily routine. The world is filled with dreamers, schemers, winners and losers, but for the most part the world consists of productive members of society. My brother was lucky enough to be a dreamer and a winner. Many who read this book may not agree due to the circumstances that changed his life, but it lies in how one perceives the human spirit and the remarkable achievements one can accomplish with determination and perseverance.
This book is a tribute to a man who when faced with incredible adversity continued to prove to the world that he could beat the odds and turn the cards dealt to him into a winning hand. William Gerhardt Bieber lived the first 30 years of his life as a well able bodied person with dreams and goals much like that of most of us. He lived his life carefree and on his own terms. Like a lot of us he may have taken his life for granted at times. When I say that I’m referring to how most of us wake up in the morning and live our lives not really taking into account that something might befall us that may change our lives forever. Let’s face it, how many of us think that by the end of any given day someone or something’s actions will directly impact our lives such that it changes our very existence, as we knew it. In January of 1984 a tragedy struck my brother Bill that did just that.
The information in this book is gathered from interviews from family members, friends and excerpts from an autobiography Bill was working on before his death in October of 2004.
So Bill if you’re allowed to look down from heaven this book is dedicated to you. My brother, my friend and my hero.
