“I wonder what it says?” said Dean as he sat staring at the envelope containing the first of Dougie’s challenges.
“Only one way to find out” said Razor as he snatched it out of Dean’s hands. He removed the contents and held it out in front of him so they could both read it.
“Dear Dean,
If you’re reading this letter it means firstly that I’m dead (which is a real bummer I can tell you) and secondly that you have agreed to take on my challenge. As you know by now I have a few bob tucked away - who’d have thought that those annoying five second jingles at the end of an advert could be worth so much dosh? I thought long and hard about what to do with the money. I rapidly decided that I didn’t give a fuck about any charities and out of my family the only one that stuck with me through thick and thin was my mum and she will have more than enough with what I have left her.
So the real decision was who to leave the rest to and how to do it. You and Razor have been my best mates for the past five years and as we’ve had some right laughs I decided that you should both get the chance to have some of my cash. However I didn’t just want to give it to you; that would be too boring. I have therefore decided to use my untimely demise as an opportunity to create a final period of mayhem and to ensure that you both to have a few more laughs before you forget about me; sort of my legacy if you like. It has taken me a while to think up a good way of doing this but I think that the ten challenges that you will be set will be exciting, fun and will definitely make the next ten weeks interesting.
I’m sure by now that you are dying (excuse the pun) to know what the first of these challenges is. I thought I’d break you in gently with an easy one:
‘Party Tricks’
All you need to do is to get at least three members of the house to perform an ‘impressive’ party trick, which should be a piece of piss given some of the lads that you know.
Anyway, good luck mate and hopefully we’ll be in touch again in a week’s time.

“Party tricks? That really is going to be a piece of piss” said Razor.
“What a fucking relief” said Dean. “I’ve been shitting myself for the past two days worrying what Dougie was going to come up with. I’ll tell you Razor if the rest of these so called challenges are like this then we’ll both be rich before we know it.”
“Knowing Dougie, I wouldn’t fucking bank on it” Razor responded with a knowing smile.

The Inheritance Game is an amusing and often outrageous novel that follows the story of Dean Williams, who thinks all his dreams have come true when he unexpectedly inherits a £2 million house from a recently-deceased friend, Dougie. However the catch is that the terms of the inheritance state Dean must move into the house with seven of his friends and successfully complete ten challenges that have been set by his late friend before ownership is transferred to him. One challenge is released per week by the deceased’s solicitor and it quickly becomes evident that Dougie had a sick sense of humour as majority of the challenges require Dean and his friends to do things that most people would need to be paid to do. As the weeks progress the challenges become more extreme and outrageous and test not only the principles and morals of the group but also how far Dean is prepared to go in order to get his hands on the money. Alongside the weekly challenges are a myriad of other storylines revolving around the exploits of the eight guys living in the house. These storylines are humorous and frequently outrageous but have elements familiar to anyone who has ever drunk too much and done something they later regretted.
The Inheritance Game follows the friendship, relationships and sex lives of a group of eight guys in their mid twenties and aims to cater for the twenty and thirty-something market in the same way as Bridget Jones, but with more of a focus on the male perspective. The central inheritance storyline is laced with intriguing moral dilemmas which make for compelling reading and are designed to make the reader question what they would do in a similar situation. Alongside the central plot are a variety of other storylines which are often outrageous and will make the reader laugh / cringe at the characters’ antics. Each chapter represents a different day and as a result they are deliberately designed to be relatively short and self contained.
