deAth became introduced to the coven by the unlikely route of an NVQ course in warehouse practice. Avoiding the more tedious lectures he would lurk in the library where The Master found him one day, flicking through the nude photographs in an encyclopedia of the occult.
Subsequently he developed mixed feelings about the alfresco activities of the coven. These involved meetings in disused quarries above the town. On one occasion a neophyte succumbed to hypothermia, causing a hurried curtailment of the ceremony. It was belatedly realised that his peculiar behaviour came as a result of wind chil, rather than the magic mushrooms he had eaten earlier. de Ath was detailed to answer the awkward questions at the hospital.

About the Book
Clink is a satirical novel about the people who run prisons. Following the death of a prisoner who has vanished into administrative limbo, the governor finds an investigation is underway, led by a man who has reason to hate him. Others are jostling for position; the medical officer, deputy governor (who wants his bosses job) and junior staff trying to survive. Meanwhile bodies are being exhumed, a Satanist is plotting and a prisoner is carrying out an important burglary for management. Will the governor survive the internal and external threats and can the prison manage to get through another day?
About the Author
Mark Ryder worked for many years in the prison and probation services. His job took him to various parts of the country. During the course of his career Mark was fascinated by how the decision making process was shaped by the peculiar demands of running a total institution.
