The Vedas are very vast and what has come down to us is only a small portion of it. The Vedas themselves say that they are Endless. So it is very reasonable to assume that what has been available to us is a fraction only. The Breath of God, the Vedas, continues to make vibrations, sounds in space. This also has no end. When one Brahma goes, another Brahma will continue the work of creation hearing these vibrations.
Modern research has proved that sound vibrations induce faster and healthier growth in plants, which yield more number of fruits. That Veda Mantras have therapeutic value has also been admitted by medical science. The chanting of Veda Mantras sitting very near the patients afflicted with fatal disease has been found to be effective and is going on in various modern hospitals all over the world.
Soft and melodious music notes or ragas are very effective in producing emotions of joy and sorrow. Those with very high blood pressure or tensions get very great relief by listening to tuneful music. The very musical sound itself has the effect. So too the Veda Mantras. Different sounds produce different effects in the nervous system. When we hear good news and are happy, our face radiates as if the Sun is shinning. This is because certain nerves [nadis] get cool and composed. This is reflected on the face. If on the other hand, when one gets angry, agitated or tensed, the heart beat and pulse beat are increased. So this face becomes different. So the nervous system has to be nursed properly; for proper health, Vedic chanting is said to be the very best remedy.
In Ancient India, the Sages used to cure any illness by one chanting of the Panchakshari Mantra, Na Ma Shi Va Ya, which is chanted by all Shiva devotees daily. How could they do this? Even in the present day, we find the Mahatmas are able to do so. One look, one touch, one word, that is all what is needed; these Mahatmas work wonders. How is it? The answer is that these Sages have very great power of concentration, besides their innate capacity to invoke the vibrations properly. Further, they chant the Mantras very perfectly in its pure form adhering strictly to the words and tone. That is why they get the result. Because of their vast powers, they ‘will’ something and it happens!! And happens in the most natural way!!
So the Veda Mantras are very relevant to man, especially the man who lives in the modern age with stress, strain and tension. To get a healthy body and a healthy mind, he should tread on the Vedic path, practise japa, meditation and recite Veda Mantras properly as advised by the Guru, always keeping his mind and body clean. Naturally, the wild and baser emotions in him will get destroyed automatically.

About the Book
For the first time, here is an opportunity to learn and understand India’s rich cultural history, philosophy, religion and spirituality. These five volumes on the Saints and Seers of India is a wonderful collection of thrilling stories, patiently written over a period of five years by the author K.K. Nair. Many of these stories have not been covered in English so far, though one may find a few in regional languages.
The purpose of these volumes is to kindle the interest in the young mind and satiate their quest for knowledge. This work is a yeomen service done by the author to the budding youths all over the world. They will benefit immensely. This work will give them an exposure to basic culture, ethics and religion. These chapters give lessons for harmonious living, lofty ideas, inspiration and a sense of direction to face the tribulations of life.
India is rich in its spiritual wealth. Innumerable bhaktas/devotees and mystics have taken birth here and have shown that the path of devotion is open to all. God is that infinite spirit. Though these Sages and Seers are not physically with us; yet one can revel in their presence by reading about them.
These volumes of spiritual treasure should ornament every home in any part of the globe. Children, youth and the old will certainly enjoy and benefit by reading them.
About the Author
Born at Alatur as the eldest son of Shri Malamal Velayudhan Malamal Nair, a leading Advocate of Palghat and Kaltusseri Kizhakke Veettil Ammini Amma, Kunhi Krishnan (known as K.K. Nair) had his education at Government Victoria College, Palghat, and at Annamalai University, Chidambaram. He secured first class in M.A. with History, Politics and Economics as subjects. He was awarded the Shri Neelakanta Shastri Prize for proficiency in Indian History and the C.R. Reddy Prize for securing the first rank.
Mr. Nair started his Journalistic career with the Indian Express, Madurai. Soon, he joined The Times of India, Bombay, where he stayed on for about 20 years. He was a regular contributor to Blitz and Current Weeklies, specializing in investigative stories. He left the Times in 1978 to join as Editor, Arab News, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
In 1987, he came under the spell of the well-known Saint Mata Amritanadamayi, which gave a new direction and a new meaning to his life. Though writing stories began as a leisure time activity, it took a serious turn over the years. With the grace of the Divine Mother, he patiently completed the work in five years. His wish was to write specially selected stories with morals for the young. Mr. K.K. Nair passed away on March 21st, 2004 in Mumbai, INDIA.
