“Whatcha’ thinking over there, Charlie?” Matt leaned close so I could hear him over the voices.
“Oh, just about how different things are here compared to Saint Agnes. It’s going to take some
getting used to.”
“I bet. Hey, did you see the flyer about the Back to School Dance on Saturday?” Matt asked.
“No, I didn’t. A dance? That’s kinda weird.” I replied hoping he didn’t hear the fear in my voice.
A dance? I had never been to a dance, especially with a bunch of boys. The closest I had been to a
dance was when we picked Natalie up last year. Please, don’t let him ask me. Please, don’t let him
ask me. I could feel my palms getting all sweaty.
“I don’t know if I’m going to go yet or not. It’s my dad’s weekend, so I need to see if he had
anything planned. Hey, here is our stop.” Matt stood up before the bus came to a complete stop.
He didn’t ask me. Whew, I can breathe again. Wait a minute, he didn’t ask me. Why didn’t he ask
me? I knew it, he just felt sorry for me today. Yep, Charlie, you are a loser.

About the Book
For any 13 year old starting junior high at a public school for the first time is scary enough, but even more so if you have to follow in the footsteps of a “perfect” older sibling. That is exactly what Charlie is feeling, too. Not only is she coming to a public junior high after going to an all girls private school for the last six years, but she has to deal with the “perfect” older sister, Natalie, and to top it all off the Snob Princess, Cindy, from her old school has decided to go to the same junior high. Join Charlie on her adventure as she discovers that sometimes just being yourself no matter how scary things may seem makes everything turn out for the best in the end.
About the Author
I have thoroughly enjoyed writing my first book and the entire publishing process. I want to extend my appreciation and thanks to the Author House team for their support and patience. I would also like to thank my wonderful husband, Darin, for helping make this possible. I am a mother of three wonderful children ages 10, 8, and 5. They have provided me with such inspiration for my writing. I hope that girls and boys of all ages can relate to Charlie’s experiences and fears. I think most of us have either had the older sibling or perhaps a friend that we thought was “perfect” and that we would never compare or measure up. I hope that Charlie can show others that it is absolutely okay to be yourself. I look forward to sharing more of her adventures with you in the future.
