Days later, Kevin calls Sue at work asking if she would accept dinner with him in the near future. She agrees, and soon their relationship turns into more than casual meetings. Later on, however, she concedes to herself that a man who had been so consistently gentle and kind to her could turn into something quite different, like a Jekyll and Hyde. She shutters at the thought.
She begins to be suspicious of him during one late night, yet she pushes aside those thoughts, too consumed with the passion she fells while being with him.
“Sue. This is Kevin. Can we meet by the telephone booth outside your Hospital right after work tonight,” he says into the telephone receiver.
His voice seems tight and strained to her. She wonders why, and later on asks herself why she did not ask him about it.
“Sure, but what’s it about?” she asks.
“I’ll tell you then.”
“Ok. I get off at
“Thanks for meeting me on short notice,” he says to Sue.
“Sure. …”
He hangs up the telephone before Sue finishes her comments.
The iron nerve of a man waiting by a telephone booth who is desperate can begin to break down fast under pressure. Everyone has their breaking point. No one is invulnerable. This includes Kevin Desmond.

“Would you do something special for me if I asked you?” he queries while Sue continues to walk toward him, five feet away. He can’t wait for her to come closer. He is that desperate.
“Depends. What’s the question?” she replies as she stops to stare at him, alarmed at what she sees. There is no embrace from him. Nothing about how her day has been. She becomes worried.
“Please. I need your help, and there is no one else I trust,” he answers rapidly, looking from side to side, gliding over her face, barely catching the alarm she feels, yet alarmed by the feeling he has.
