About the Book

Symoane, age, 16, expresses herself through poetry.  Her world crumbles when her mother, Gail, divorces her father, Tony.  Symoane is mostly affected by Gail’s relationship with Tony’s co-worker and former friend, Frank.  Gail forces Symoane along with her younger sister, to act disciplined so that Frank would marry her.  Symoane feels her mother will change and would soon neglect them.

She frowns at the sight of the engagement ring Gail shows off.

Shortly after the wedding, Symoane''''s life turns into a living nightmare and she gives up hope and faith.  Frank moves in and takes over the family’s home.  He becomes very hostile towards Symoane, accusing her of being promiscuous with the boys in the hood.  This is in an attempt to cover up his pedophile behavior.  Gail becomes aware of the abuse, turns her back on Symoane and kicks her out of the house.

Symoane at age 23 struggles to raise her son, Zachary.  They move from shelter to shelter, difficult for survival.  Once sweet and innocent, She becomes a bitter and

scandalous young woman in order to survive the streets.  Her life becomes a ride on a rollercoaster.  She wants to stop the world to get off.  Then she finds comfort in God, which helps her endure her transition.
