I am convinced, as we stand at the threshold of every choice before us – as we consider the possible outcomes of our decisions and the different scenarios of life which could result play through our minds – our thoughts are not the only ones we consider, nor are our own voices the only ones we hear. You’re beginning to think I’m a bit eccentric? I’ll prove my point with one, quick question. Have you ever had an idea come into your head and then quickly found yourself saying, “Where did that come from?” Did it seem a bit weird or strange? Didn’t seem like you, to think of such a thing, did it? So, where did that thought come from? To believe my thoughts are the only ones I’m considering and my voice is the only one I am listening to, is to see only in part. It is a view from only one perspective, limited, strictly on a horizontal plane: me, in relation to this world I know, with the thoughts and reasoning I have learned during my years of living here. If this is the way you see things, I understand. I did, too. But I have come to realize the picture is really much broader. Parts of the picture were hidden from me, though I remember different times in my life when I caught fleeting glimpses of light just outside the edges of my normal field of vision. They were only brief flashes, but enough to spark my curiosity whether there could be something more. Those parts may still be hidden from your view. Allow me to complete the picture. There you are, standing in the middle of your world, facing the choice you must make. But as I said before, you are not alone.
