About the Book
I decided to start off this book with poems of innocence and laughter. You know, it’s funny looking back and realizing where I was in life when I wrote them. I have written poems on friendships, poems on understanding, and especially poems on love. Of course, as we all have to do at some point in our lives, I grew and so did my love for poetry. So in the second part of my book, I have decided to show you another side of me—poetry that expresses my growth and maturity. I really enjoyed writing this book, and I hope that you will enjoy reading it.
About the Author
Growing up I was selectively mute. I found it almost impossible to speak to ones I didn''t know or, should I say, felt comfortable around. My nerves would get the best of me, and even when I so desperately wanted to speak, I just couldn''t!
In school I enjoyed writing assignments. If I had to write a paragraph, I could write five or more. However, it wasn''t until sixth grade, when I was twelve years old, that I wrote my first poem. The feeling of being able to express my thoughts in a lyrical way was phenomenal. Whether it was poetry or stories, I have found writing to be the most effective way that I can express my thoughts and ideas. Having and working with children has also provided me with a lot of ideas for my poetry—children say the darnedest things! As I got older I started to see my writing of poetry in a new light, realizing that readers of my poetry could possibly find just as much pleasure and comfort in reading it as I have found in writing it. So I started to seek ways in which I could be heard. In 2003 and 2004, I had the privilege of having two of my poems published by the International Library of Poetry. The feelings of accomplishment were so great that I didn''t want to stop there, and I haven''t!
