We did not know what to do.
All of a sudden, Salvatore Skunk puffed up. He tore off his flower costume and hollared...

And let me tell you, he sprayed that fisher cat six ways to sunday!
The fisher cat screamed. He fell down on the ground and rolled over and over and over. He was screeching in pain. He tried to wipe his eyes with his paws, but his claws were too big. After awhile, he just started crying and whimpering. He crawled on his belly very slowly, back into the woods.
We were all very quiet for awhile. We started to talk about it. And then...
We were cheering..
We were cheering for Salvatore Skunk. He had saved us. Never again would we call him stinky cheese or smelly socks.
He was our hero.
Salvatore Skunk was beaming!
The fire went out. The party ended. Everyone went home.

About the Book
“Tales of a Tom Cat” is a chapter book. It is based on reality and true experiences but exaggerated into fiction. It is written for children ages 7-10, but can be read to younger children. It contains humor and some good life lessons.
The stories are about a cat named Gabby who was rescued by my grandson, Alex, from the local animal shelter. Gabby was there because he meowed too much. He had lived in an apartment and was very unhappy because he wanted to be an outside cat.
The book is about Gabby’s experiences at our home on a lake next to the woods where he meets all kinds of wildlife creatures. He learns to be a good outside cat, a good mouser, and a good friend. He finds happiness and learns about love.
