BROWN ISLANDS is a product of Love - Love of spreading knowledge, Love of teaching, Love of being with children, and Love of the subject matter, the animals and habitats in the Long Island Sound area.

 

          Read to your child or class about the wonders of nature that are found in an intertidal area.  Whet the appetite of young explorers and future scientists as to what can be found in the sand and mud.  Instill in those inquisitive minds, a unique knowledge about some of the animals that live in the intertidal area, and perhaps how they and their habitats need to be protected.


About the Author

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:   Charlotte Tillman Matthews was born and raised in the Stratford, CT area, spending much time on the shores of Long Island Sound.  As a child she lived in a cottage on the Sound in the summer.  She has been an avid swimmer and boater much of her life.  She is a retired Special Education and Kindergarten teacher and has spent some of her retirement time teaching about the flora and fauna of Long Island Sound, working for Save the Sound, Inc., Connecticut Audubon Birdcraft Museum, and Protect Your Environment, Inc.

 

          Mrs. Matthews lives in Stratford, CT with her husband, Grant, and part of their family - daughter, Lynn, son-in-law, Paul, and two wonderful granddaughters, Madison and Mikenzie.  Son, Bruce and his wife, Christie live in Tucson, AZ with their five children, Harrison, Andrew, Brooks, Clayton, and Parker.
