About the Book

What is a “good photographic education?” Given your cameras, and a bag of film, could you feed yourself?

There are no “angels” in photography; only folks who’ve learned their lessons. Author Peter Nebergall is one of them. His book includes chapters on equipment, on portraiture, on sharpness, on motion, on Aerial photography, on editing, even on necessary social skills.

WWII photographer Lester Wilson (who lost a leg at Iwo Jima) taught Peter the old ways. In Street Photog, Peter attempts to hand down the lessons he has learned.

About the Author

Peter Nebergall received his first camera at age 8, and sold his first picture at age 13. With his school, his music, and his interest in storytelling grew a love of photojournalism. At age 15, he encountered former US Army photographer Lester Wilson, a compatriot of Joe Rosenthal, who exposed the boy to the great work done long ago.

Peter has worked in sports, fashion, advertising, news, ethnography, and archaeology. In the course of his work with Illusions LTD. and Word And Pictures, he has had to hire, as ‘temps’, students/grads from the local J-school.

“They weren’t prepared”, he says. “They’re full of attitude, ready to work for the NY Times, but lack of basics, the wisdom old Mr. Wilson passed on to me.”

Peter wrote this book to help pass on the lessons he learned.
