About the Book

Francis lived with her father and her brothers on a tiny island in the Caribbean. Her parents had been divorced for two years now, and her mother had moved to the United States. Francis knew that the day would come when she and her brothers would have to take a plane to visit their mother, but she never thought about it much until one day when she overheard her father talking on the phone and making arrangements for them to visit the United States for summer vacation.

Francis immediately felt a sense of fear and panic. For though she knew that being on aplane for the first time would be exciting, she couldn’t help but wonder if something might go wrong.

Did Francis wind up taking the plane or did she conquer her fear?

About the Author

Panya grew up on a tiny island in the Caribbean, and as a little girl, she dreamed of taking a plane for the first time and traveling to the United States. “Francis Fear of Flying’ tells a story of a little girl who develops a fear of flying after she accidentally overhears the news that she will be taking a plane for the first time. Francis goes through a bit of anxiety and fear, and decides that she will never fly, ever because she is convinced that it is far too dangerous.

It is now up to Francis’ father to convince her that there’s nothing to fear, and hopes that Francis changes her mind. Panya writes this story reflecting back on her childhood and what it was like to fly for the very first time.
