Francis Jenkins had never flown before, and the very thought of her taking a plane made her nervous and excited all at the same time. Her parents had been divorced two years now, and her mother was now living with her new husband all the way in the United States. Francis was very happy living with her father, her brothers, and her aunts in a tiny island in the Caribbean. But, she knew that one day she would have to meet her mother''s new husband. She never thought about it much, until one day when she overheard her father on the phone talking about summer vacation and where he was going to take them.
Francis sat outside her father’s room door, and listened in on his conversation as he talked to her mother on the phone. After all, this very was exciting news.
Yes, Susan,” her father replied on the phone. “I know the children would love to come see you this summer. We’ve always said that they would love the United States, if only they had the chance to visit, and now they do.”
Even though Francis’s parents were divorced, they were still friendly to each other, and they always put the well being of their children first.
Francis pressed her ears closer to the door, and hoped that she would be able to hear the exact date when they would actually be taking their vacation.
“When do you think would be a perfect time for them to visit?” Her father asked.
Francis smiled, “here it comes,” she whispered.
“Two weeks after school closes? Yes, I think that that would be a perfect time as well.” Mr. Jenkins replied
