Who Am I?

There came a church complaint,

And the disciples got the news

Of widows being treated unfairly,

And charged were the Hebrews.

The disciples began to address it,

And this is what the church heard:

“We cannot be waiting on tables

And therefore neglect the word;

Choose seven men with wisdom.

They must have a good reputation     

And be full of the Holy Spirit.

To deal with this confrontation.”

So this saying pleased the people

And they picked the seven deacons.

If my memory serves correctly,

They picked Philip and Stephen.

They picked Parmenas and Timon

To help deal with this contention,

And then Nicanor and Nicolas

And myself whom I didn’t mention.

               Who Am I?

At Herod’s birthday banquet,

I was called upon to dance.

For the way I worked this body,

I was then given the chance

To get anything that I wanted,

And the price it didn’t matter.   

So I said I’d take the head              

Of John the Baptist on a platter.

A child of the devil I was called

By an apostle by the name of Paul.      

When Sergius Paulus believed,

My opposing views he received;

Paul rebuked me at that time;

He spoke a word-and I went blind.
