Broken Hearted

I knew the police would be coming soon because of the loud gunfire. In this neighborhood people called the police if you were an unfamiliar face. The smell of gunpowder filled the air like the stench of burnt tires skidding on a street. My hand ached as I stood there holding the gun and looking down at “Him”. That was the first time I had ever fired a gun. It would probably be my last. “Police, open up! Open up or we’re comin in! Open up! I continued to stand there looking at “Him” as I tried to prepare myself for the bombarding of the police to enter the house. There was a loud thump as the door burst open off of its hinges. “Drop your weapon! Drop your weapon now Miss!” It was almost as if I was watching myself in a movie as the gun slowly dropped out of my hands and the police grabbed me and wrestled me to the floor. My arms ached as they pulled them tightly behind my back and placed the cold handcuffs on me. I looked at “Him” as he laid there, eyes open and bleeding from the mouth. Even than I still loved him and wished I could turn back time. But I couldn’t and this was real, right now. He was dead and I killed him. The man I vowed to love forever was dead and I couldn’t fix that. The police pulled me to my feet and began to read me my rights.  “Do you understand these rights as I have read them to you”? “Yes”, I meekly replied. The house quickly became chaotic as policeman and detectives were roping off the murder scene and bagging evidence. An officer led me outside and helped me into the police car. The sirens were loud as the car pulled off. People were everywhere watching as we sped down the street. I looked outside the window with blankness in my eyes. Everything was moving fast, like in fast forward mode. I sat there silent in my own thoughts. I didn’t regret what I did but I felt bad because I had taken someone’s life. But he also took something from me, my Heart.
