The Porch
I am old and sit on the porch with a shawl about my shoulders wrapped
I dream with eyes half closed of youthful days when I was a robust chap
I see the past as if it were today with hands folded across my lap
I recall her sweet memory, which I loved more than life, before I nap
I awake much renewed in spirit and in mind
But this body will still be tired and will for sometime
In my mind I walk again the paths I traveled when I was a boy
While watching my young grandson as he plays before old eyes, I smile with joy
The bugle will sound no more to wake me from my sleep
But the bugle awakening sound in memory locked I keep
The paths that I walked were sunny and bright
Now with the dimming light I approach the night
I have no hold upon the days of time
Life''s clock if I choose I can not rewind
I hold no key to unlock death’s door
That once passed, time holds one accounted for
The good times that now I find will be recalling moments of life sweet and tender
Like parents that loved and nurtured this lad and to this cause their lives surrendered
The love and closeness three brothers came to know
With the sharing of time and space as into manhood they did grow
The wedding bells, the baby tales the total sharing of two hearts as man and wife
How can one not recall those sweet joys so precious to married life?
My sweet daughter comes to help me into the house as the sun falls below the trees
She breaks into tears as she sees my chin upon my chest and my chest against my knees
She places her hand upon my head with trembling lips she whispers “Good-Bye Daddy”.

About the Author
The Author became interested in poetry after the death of his mother-in-law. He wrote “Death Angel” to express his feelings of helplessness. He wrote to put emotions on paper that were hid in his heart. He wrote poems of love, grief, death, life, nature, family and spiritual poems. As he wrote sometimes tears would stain the page as emotions were transferred by his pen. Some poems were about his experiences, some were written as he took on life experiences of others as in the poem “Flight 800”. As a farmer and rancher he knows how much he depends on God and reflects this as in the poem “Farmer”. He is a Christian that loves the Lord, family and
