SABBATH KIDDUSH
Hidden in crevices of Hakotel
As between our moments of thought
As between the heartbeats of this Life
The wall surface touched of
Fragrance of spice and soft songful prayer
The tides of seasons turn over and fold into themselves
At the edges of the fields of our labor
Ripe with grain for harvest
Autumn moonlight reflects our Bride’s image
We secret starward glances of her visage
Encompassed by sweet countenance
Delight comes with the firmament’s first stars
Passionate as the trembling of
The smallest creatures
Like every songbird’s flight
In streaks of lightening that reach down from Heaven
Joy in the last few embers of the hearth
For then the silver Kiddush Cup is raised
High to taste the sweetness of Her Splendor.
SEPTEMBER MOURNING
First one
fell
Then one
fell
Dust to dust
Ashes to ashes
Words became obsolete
New ones had not yet formed
Voices were all that remained,
At the corner I stood
Collecting droplets of sound
From the skies
One by one
Into my tin cup
Enough for a poet’s shroud,
While She weaved hers
With crimson strands
Around her body
Wrapped tightly and snug
For Her Majesty’s garment

About the Book
Souls Walking is a poetic journey into our mystical and spiritual existence in the modern age. The universal themes of sorrow, love, evil, agnosticism, redemption and transcendence are probed within the framework of a Jewish dialogue. This collection beckons the reader to search our modern intellect and morality toward a path of reconciliation as between our collective past and the present, as we live in the surrealism and shadows of 9/11 and other atrocities. While comfronting the haunting silence of God, the author explores and gives recognition to divine manifestations we encounter in our daily lives. The volume weaves a tapestry of experiences moving from the nature of existence, love and transformation toward remembrance and healing suggestive of a mystical reality. As the voices reflected in this book reach out to be heard from biblical times as well as recent memory they offer moments to meditate
upon our personal journeys, relationships and humanity
About the Author
The author was born in North Carolina and grew up on Long Island. He graduated from
Hofstra University with a B.A. in psychology. He then moved to Manhattan and received
his J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University. Steve is a
practicing attorney in New York State residing in Albany with his wife, sons and cats
