The Rolling Wheel Cafe is buzzing with regular customers early on a Friday morning. The grill, one half filled with bacon and sausage, sizzles as the cook cracks open eggs to fill the other half. A group of men discuss items of interest regarding their small rural community, as they gulp down cups of black coffee while waiting for their breakfast. The waitress approaches the table with another pot of coffee. Carter Mansgrove, carpenter by trade and life-long resident, rises from his chair.
“Whatcha doing, Carter, leaving already?” the waitress asks.
“Yup. I have a lot to do today and drinking coffee all morning is not on the top of my list.” Pulling loose change from his pocket, he tosses several coins on the table.
“Don’t forget the tip,” Monica says chuckling.
Carter smiles. “Wouldn’t think of it.” Again, he reaches into his pocket, retrieves more coins and lays them in her extended hand. “See you tomorrow.” He bids everyone good-by and heads for the door.
Nancy Holst, seated at a table by the large picture window, greets Carter as he walks by, then focuses her attention out the window. In no time at all she becomes mesmerized admiring the beautiful sunny day and doesn’t hear Monica approach her table.
“What can I get for you today,
“Oh, my!”
“Cute, real cute,” Monica replies. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.”
Monica grabs a cup off the table, rights it and fills it with coffee, then asks lightheartedly, “Should I ring a bell before I approach with your pancakes?”
“Not right now, thanks,”
Carter arrives home and parks his ’92 Dodge pickup in the driveway. A pager attached to his belt sounds off. Though he is retired from the Wolsey Volunteer Fire Department, he helps out when they are short-handed. He quickly rushes into the house, dials in to get the message, then rushes back to his pickup. Needing someone trained in CPR, Carter drives back to the Rolling Wheel Cafe to get Nancy Holst. Having reached the parking lot, he steers his pickup as close as possible to the large cafe window where she is sitting.

About the Book
Serving God was a life choice made by William Boyd Guthrie. He served as a minister in the Christian Church for many years, then switched to the Presbyterian religion. The Wolsey and Bonilla Presbyterian churches inSouth Dakotahad been without a full-time minister for over a year. In June of 1996 church officials searched for a minister willing to serve at their two small churches. After reviewing several résumés from various candidates, they requested William Guthrie’s employment. He accepted their request and moved his family moved to Wolsey.
There were several personal matters unbeknownst to the churches or his family that were ultimately revealed three years later. In this true story these secrets are brought to light after Dr. Bill finds his wife, Sharon, unconscious in their bathtub. She had overdosed on prescription drugs. Further information arises, and Dr. Bill is arrested for murdering his wife. He is now Serving Time.

Writing consumes most of her time, along with managing the family rental business. Hobbies include bowling, reading, horseback riding, and crafts. Spending time with her grandchildren is high on her list of things to do.
