About the Book

Kinship Patterns is a full length collection of poetry by Terrance Oberst. It is a series of biographical sketches or “tribute” poems divided into 4 sections: “Family,” “Friends,” “Elegies” for those who have passed on and “A Final Poem For A Friend,” a long recollection of an individual met while hitchhiking up the coast of California. It is a book of poetic memoirs, people the poet has lived with, laughed with, cried over and loved.

About the Author

Terrance Oberst received his M.A. degree in Creative Writing from The University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1994.  He currently lives in Lincoln where he has taught at a mental health facility the subjects of Creative Writing and Metaphysics and now facilitates a weekly verse writing workshop.  He has published nearly 40 poems in various magazines, journals and anthologies, as well as two previous books of poetry.  One is a chapbook, Returning, in 1994 and the other, a full length collection, Transcendencies, in 2000.  Greg Kuzma, the Director of Poetry Writing at U.N.L., says: “Terry Oberst has been places in the soul where few of us will ever go.”  Mr. Oberst has always thought of his poetry as “an Ariadne’s thread through the dark labyrinth of the self.”
