Then a desperate fist came against the cheek of the weaker man, and he lay weeping on the bricks, as the stronger man took up the shovel and walked toward the truck. Then the stronger man turned back; his own tears flowing down his face. He helped the beaten man to his feet and assisted him to the truck where others helped him climb aboard. The stronger man was heard to say, “I’m sorry, my friend, for hitting you. If you can forgive me, we’ll take turns with the shovel.”
As the trucks pulled away in the November chill with it’s cargo of shabbily-dressed men, shedding tears of gratefulness, even more men with tears of rejection watched them go until the trucks were out of sight. With their heads down, and some of them cursing through their tears, these men defeatedly trod toward their homes to deliver the everlasting, bone-dry expression: “No job.”

About the Book
Storms of Tribulation is a journey, into the world of a youth as he encounters the challenges, lessons, and tribulation of the years surrounding the Great Depression. The characters Jim encounters are colorful, crude and sometimes absolutely comical. Using slang speech narrative brings these characters to life in a true-to-life adventure. Through Jim’s eyes you will experience the hardships, revel in the adventurous, and come to grips with an era that helped shaped the characters of older Americans we know today. Many of the rendezvous arranged by Jim’s friends around the ole’ swimming hole proved to be the catalyst for many of Jim’s “life’s lessons” and molded his character into a solid, conservative gentleman he is today. Jim’s colloquial style of writing will send you back to the “Good old days” in a fury of reminiscence that reminds you that those days were not so “good” after all.
About the Author
James Kent spent the latter days of his childhood in the throws of the Great Depression. He watched his parents sacrifice everything for their children and because of this life’s lesson, approached adulthood with a chip on his shoulder.
While serving with the U.S. Marines in World War II, James received the Silver Star, Two Purple Hearts and the Two Presidential Unit Citations. At
