Windows of the Soul – Part 1

You find yourself standing in a small room, facing a large bay window — a bay window that is divided into three equal sections, rising from floor to ceiling. As you turn to survey the room, you notice someone standing near you — someone who is part of your life. As you now stand together looking through the windows, you become aware of the many panes of glass contained within each section. No two windowpanes are the same. Their sizes range from large to very small.

Looking closer at the different sections you notice that most of the windows panes contain a certain degree of filth. Even though some of them are spotlessly clean, the majority are either slightly stained or so dirty that they appear completely dark.

Undaunted by the immense task, you both decide to remove the dirty panes of glass to clean them. Spotlessly clean windowpanes would not only allow you to enjoy the view, but would also invite the sun in; illuminating the room. Together, you proceed to take down the dirty panes of glass, even those that are slightly dirty. You lean them up against a wall and prepare to clean them with soap and a bucket of hot water. After stacking them, you each select a window and start scrubbing. But after much effort, you notice that the glass is not coming clean, no matter how much commitment you put forth.

Nightfall finds you still working on your first pane of glass. Even though both of you have good attitudes, neither of you are taking your work seriously, joking with each other about how dirty the windows are. Eventually the two of you become tired and decide to call it a day, leaving the stack of dirty windows leaning up against the wall.  You make your beds in front of the bay window and lay down to sleep, agreeing to start again early in the morning; hoping to figure out the secret to cleaning the dirty glass.

Moments later, as you are lying next to your sleeping companion, you sense an evil presence lurking outside the open windows. In one swift motion, an invisible evil presence flows into the room through the holes of the bay window — the same holes that you created when you removed the dirty panes of glass. Pouring through the open windows, these evil spirits attack you; suffocating the life from your body.

You try to fight back — but how do you fight a presence you cannot see? Terrified, your only thought is to ask for help from a higher source. As you are nearly overcome with the intense power of this adversary, you call out the name of this higher power. The moment that you speak this name you find yourself awake in your bed, in the real world, your companion shaking you to rouse you from your obvious nightmare.
