I watched Wesley getting Lily ready for bed. This was the first time I had actually seen him in his fatherly role. He was so gentle and careful with her.
“Mommy, come and give our beautiful baby a good night kiss.” Wesley said drawing me out of the trance I had been caught up in.
“Good night sweetness.” I leaned over the side of the crib to kiss Lily who reached out for my necklace. Wesley dimmed the lights and the ceiling illuminated full of stars. In the corner of the room was a moon that provided enough light to walk around without bumping into anything. Wesley pulled a stool up to the side of the crib and opened a book of bible stories.
“Where did we leave off from your last visit?” He flipped through the pages and Lily’s attention turned to him as he started to read. I felt tears welling up in my eyes because this was another one of those times when I felt regretful for the choices and decisions I made. I quietly got up and walked out of the room because I didn’t want either of them to see me cry. I went back downstairs and started cleaning the dishes from my dinner. I heard my phone ringing again and immediately the picture of Derrick and
“She’s asleep already?” I asked when I heard Wesley coming towards me.
“Yeah, I didn’t even make it through a couple of pages.”
“I guess she’s jetlagged.” I said looking at my watch.
“Could be; what about you? Are you ready to call it a night?” Wesley sat down beside me and I was surprised when I felt a butterfly in my stomach.
“Actually, I was hoping to beat you at a game of Scrabble, but it’s getting late. I’d better call and see if I can get a room at one of the hotels near the airport.”
“Hotel? Raven you know you are welcome to stay here in one of the guest rooms.”
“I don’t want to cause any problems.”
“What did I just say?” Wesley got up.
“Where are you going?”
“To get the game since you obviously have missed getting beat.” He said with a smile.
“Oh, if I remember correctly, we were evenly matched. If anything, I have won more games than you.”
“In your dreams maybe.” Wesley placed the game on the coffee table and then the dictionary.

She finds herself standing in a place where she is not sure she would have ended up in if she had taken the time to carefully consider everything. Now she is not sure if she is doing the right thing for the right reason or if she’s just stuck with the Decision she made. Now in Consequences, Raven is adjusting to face all of the Choices and Decisions that she has either made or has allowed to be made for her. Now Raven has to face what went wrong between her and Wesley, while trying to maintain the peace for the sake of the daughter they share. Now Raven has to figure out whether or not she has what it takes to be the wife of Derrick Kincaide while being confronted with the life her husband lived before her. Now Raven has to deal with Derrick’s bitter ex-wife Shayla who seems to live to embarrass Raven and make her life difficult because Derrick decided to finally end their marriage and now she feels like she’s been replaced. So when there are Choices that we are forced to make which then turns into Decisions that are not carefully thought out. We are often times left to suffer the Consequences that follow. Just ask Raven. Laine Highsmith is a romantic at heart who frequently finds her escape through the lives of the characters she creates. Employed in the health insurance industry for almost twenty years she greatly anticipates the day when the boss she has to report to is her computer at home and the only dress code she has to adhere to is which pair of jeans and tee shirt she will wear today. Surrounded by the love and support of her family and friends, Laine is currently pursuing her dream and working on the completion of her fourth novel with these same characters tentatively entitled Repercussions.
