THE HIDDEN TRUTH

The date was July 17, the year 2,070 AD, time was 10.00 a.m. I was going out to do my last meditation on top of a hill, called “Ugwu Nwa Osu Orji” that was once green but now bear, void of both humans and all other creatures, which used to inhabit it. As usual, the hot sun was biting on the only exposed parts of my skin. The air was so polluted I had to wear my oxygen mask and protective clothing too. Without the mask, there was always a smell of dirt, decayed and decaying leaves, rotten human flesh and toxic waste products. As I sat down, a field telescope in hand, I surveyed the entire land. Everywhere was flooded! It was like endless water mass. I have been travelling for eight months by my solar energy propelled speedboat, living on capsules (a new scientific product that can keep the body system functioning without food or water and without excretions too!) but my pills, (taken once a week) could only keep me alive for another year, while the oxygen could only last for one week; apparently I had only one week to go the way of the people whose bones laid like white casques of battalion upon that rare dried land mass. I examined my noble ultraviolet rays submachine gun, patted it and smiled “You’ve been a good pal” I moaned. Then stream of tears flowed down my hot cheeks, I needed oxygen and was prepared to trade it with four months pills. But when would I ever meet a human being? Would he or she agree to exchange peacefully or by survival law - winner takes it all.

“The oxygen or your life!” a harsh desperate voice of a woman demanded from behind and I felt a cold object at the back of my neck.

“ I’m already dead; I have the diseases,” before I could finish my sentence, the adversary jumped, like a frightened hare, screamed and disappeared to the nearby rock. I watch until her motorboat vanished into the horizon. I was alone again!

A disease that was more frightening than any weapon of war, which haddestroyed 3.4 billion people on the earth. Yes, for the past fifty-five years, we had witnessed thirty-two dreadful and lethal epidemic diseases. The most dangerous was VV, otherwise called vampire viruses. These viruses usually attack the red and white blood cells in the body first. When the victim eventually dies, they eat up the flesh, leaving the bones. Whoever touches the corpse or has body contact with a victim (life or dead) gets contaminated. Life span, after infection at first was about four weeks, but reduced to four hours. Any town that is attacked becomes a ghost town, within few months, all you could see would be bones – land animals and birds were not spared. The water creatures were destroyed too. Can you see why my foe screamed? But, to speak the truth, I did not have the disease! The same disease wiped out other members of my family! In my country alone, about 185milion died from the infection. I managed to escape. I was lucky, very rich, crafty and smart.

I thought out to myself thus: before I die, I must engrave this massage upon a rock in this mountain to probable future inhabitants, (that is, if ever this earth can be re-inhabited because it can become like the moon or turned into a transparent glass by her Creator). Although I still believe that there will be survivors, since VV cannot live, in isolation, for more than four days and without drinking blood too, I leave this: “My name is Ezeneche Chinedu, from a village called Umunakwa Ihembosi in Ekwusigo Local Government area of Anambram State, a Nigerian Municipal. I was born on September 25, 1958. I can say that I am lucky to live long enough to use age reducing drugs that has kept me till this day, July17, 2070AD. My regrets are many but my joy is that I am still a youth energetic, strong and can council other youths. As at this time, we are using one currency worldwide for exchange and our communication is in English – although some use French too. Our varied native languages had been destroyed by the early schemes of barbarous colonial monsters, who purposefully introduced theirs and indirectly banned all our rich cultures, traditions and heritages. However, by the time you discover this epistle, English may not be the language you shall be speaking. This will make my writing look mysterious or even be called a textile design, but I strongly believe that one day you all shall come to the knowledge of its alphabets and then translate this engravings to all so that you do not make the same mistake we and former inhabitants – men from theAtlantis, who lived here before us made.

We thought we were wise, we developed our minds, educated and learned many mysteries…but we had this problem of seeing our selves deferent in terms of social, class, race, creed and intellectual levels. We built invisible barriers between each class, so that no one could cross to other. We were at a time ready to destroy all the physical barriers but never minded the invisible barriers. We spent the earth’s wealth fighting, protecting, defending and dominating others – dictating how the should live so that some had more while others suffered due to our economic and commercial theories. The less privilege raped the earth’s recycling powers, while the advanced rich nations tested their weapons of wars on the remote parts of the sea, ocean and sometimes the deserts. These weapon tests consequently created diseases, while their effects strengthened unknown bacteria, which in their struggles for survival developed immunities over all our vaccines, nuclear and chemical weapons. We continued to test and use super toxic lethal chemicals, which gave rise to mysterious diseases.
