About the Book

Short, Long, and Longer Short Stories includes several early works of the author. Their range runs from description as in "Slingshot" to screenplay quality in "Las Ramblas." Each is different. Youth in the dreamlike "The Young Writer" provides riveting reading. The climax leaves the reader saying, "Wow." Character in youth, again, treats us to a powerful story in "Redemption." This valuable story has a life-size story line. "Out of Bounds" is well liked by four out of five readers. A very unique piece, it reflects off the author’s life of science, sports, and technology. "Cell Phones" and "The Snorer" are gentle stories with interesting themes. There is an enlightening "Yachting Story." This anthology draws you into places few writers will bring you. The author has a wonderful if different style of writing. Details cause us to think, even study, and feel because reality strikes us and wakes us up. You have your choice, depending on time available to read. You will pick a story that makes your eyes open and head concentrate. You’ll move forward with anticipation and inquiry because this book is compelling and unique.

About the Author

Richard F. Jarmain began writing short stories part-time in 1997, but his first published book was Poet’s Modern Poet “Human Exposure” in 2003. It’s a serious book of poems that has brought him notoriety.

Writer’s Digest was impressed by Richard’s commitment to produce this fine collection of poems. The range of subjects from relationships to loneliness and the small poems with enduring strength have been given editorial praise.

The short stories were put on the back burner as Richard wrote his first novel, Saltwater Run, published in 2004. It’s the exciting informative story of a teacher working on a yacht during summer break and it’s finding a warm reception from lovers of the sea and lovers of adventure.

When Richard studied at Niagara University he took an elective course on short stories. What impressed him most was that, as in everyone, creativity existed in his being and that it could be expressed. This pleased him. His creativity was best realized in writing. It was a way of being useful and entertaining. Both he and his readers have benefited ever since.

Very shortly, another book will follow this Short, Long, and Longer Short Stories. Watch for Thirteen Stories! It will be worth the brief wait!
