About the Book
Many unusual, if not unique,
experiences are concisely presented in 48 vignettes covering a span of about 50
years. From a five year old picking wild
strawberries on hills south of San Francisco to later having pets that included
a wild fox, a mustang on an alfalfa ranch in Nevada, a bear and a skunk in
Orangevale near Sacramento, to early marriage, to gay conversion, to love and
death, to a long term, long distance relationship. Interesting tidbits about mink sperm tests,
taxidermy, cockfights, scuba diving, soap operas and travels to
The book is divided into three
sections: Roots followed by Love, Sex,
and Relationships followed by Advice.
The later may provide more humor than suggestions one would actually
want to use.
About the Author
Bob Latham was born in California
in 1939, attended Stanford University on scholarships, worked as a chemical
engineer for DuPont, got a MChE
degree from University of Delaware, worked for Chevron, switched to teaching
high school chemistry and physics, designed and built a house in Point
Richmond, retired early to study creative writing, and worked as a volunteer
for GLBT organizations. He had three
long-term relationships: Marriage at age 20 to Linda (15 years, two children,
divorced), then Stan (15 years, sudden death), and finally Alex (12 years,
7,000 miles apart).
