About the Book

Imagine this: a congenial loner with an abundance of demented ideas who at the age of sixty decides to seduce women and become an adventurer.  His quest is not nearly so high-minded as that of Don Quixote, but his view of the world around him is no less deluded.  The main difference, though, is that this story is true.

With outrageous opinions and self-effacing humor, the author undertakes a solitary bicycle journey around the island of Corsica and then flies to the Caucasus region of Russia to spend time with an Internet girlfriend who can’t speak English.  Misadventures abound and each day brings something unpredictable.  But the real story here is the lone author’s interpretation of what it all means.

About the Author

An aging dreamer who has always yearned for adventure travel, Spike Hampson recently finished building a 21’ riverboat.  It will be his home for the next couple years as he voyages from Wyoming to Buenos Aires using rivers and protected waterways.  You can track his progress by going to his website: www.spikehampson.com.

Stalking Youth and Women in the European Outback is a new approach to writing travel literature.  Next up is a book entitled Kobuk, a philosophical speculation on why boatbuilding is a quasi-religious experience.  In the meantime, watch for Pura Vida, a Costa Rican bicycle adventure.

Spike is a geography professor at the University of Utah, and also teaches skiing at Deer Valley in the winter time.
