HOW TO SPOT A DINGBAT PROFESSIONAL
Just because someone has a
sheepskin, it doesn’t mean that they know anything!

Have you ever been hit with a wet
umbrella? I have! It leaves you feeling kind of strange, empty,
and all wet. A lot of so called
professional people are a lot like a wet umbrella. They have a covering, and they can keep their
self from getting a soaking in life. They have been given a measure of
authority in their field. They can practice their trade in their field within
certain limitations. Doctors, lawyers, and power brokers have a covering. They
have an umbrella of protection given to them by the powers that be. You can’t
always stop the rain, but you can open up an umbrella.
People that have some expertise
in one area don’t always have any expertise in another area. A lot of highly
trained people are smart in their field, but if you get them in another area of
thought they are all wet. Often people that gain a measure of power to express
authority in some area will think that they are all things to all men. Know
they know everything, when in fact they most probably know Jack crap about a
lot of things. A lot of highly trained people are on a narrow frequency band of
knowledge, understanding, and practical wisdom.
You see, just because you are
smarter than the average Jackass in one field is, it doesn’t mean that you’re
not a horses ass in another field. Do you see where I’m going with this? Look,
the brightest people out there can do everything well! They are well coordinated,
able to converse, and practice a lot of different skills. How many people do
you know like that? Well, they are out there. Being smart in one area is good,
but being smart in a lot of areas is better.
Look a top of the line
professional in one area may stand around and look stupid when the pressure is
on in another field. One-track professionals will freeze up under the pressure
of a field that they cannot practice. I’ve seen so-called top brains that
couldn’t cut there own grass. Someone will say that they are to smart to cut
grass. They are way out there somewhere. Really! Maybe they ought to come back
down to Mother earth for a while!
You real bright people can
parallel process data, and cut the grass at the same time. They know when to
get out of the rain, and when to open an umbrella. You have a lot of college
trained dimwits out there with a sheepskin and an umbrella. You got a lot of
bright people out there that can’t do anything, but they can think, so that’s
good.
I’ve heard people say, “That’s
not my area of expertise.” It’s true that a lot of people can only function
well in the area they are trained, and that’s all right. At least they know
something, and can perform. The people that really scare the hell out of me are
the Dingbat Professionals out there! The people that even a good umbrella can’t
keep them from getting wet.
How can you spot a Dingbat
Professional? There are a lot of ways, and I have a list for you to look at
here in a minute. There are a lot of great professional people out there, and
that’s a blessing for all of us. People that keep

Check for questionable
credentials, training, and past experience. Did they get their doctorate from
some foreign name you can’t pronounce?
Check their hands for hidden
sucker cups
Watch people that seem just a
little too weird, and appear anything but normal
People that use big words and
talk down to you in an attempt to intimidate you
They seem to be living in the
ozone or a local fog layer
They talk in circles, but never
say anything
A general lack of good common
sense
They try to look importance, when
important people are important and don’t need fronts
They make off the wall comments
Talk about things that you have
no knowledge of
Use control statements, and seem
to be using forms of manipulation
They have green palms
You get the gut feeling that this
guy is off of the wall
You sense that they don’t know
what they are doing
They talk through their hat
They don’t understand lawn mowers
They dress and act strangely
Sometimes you think that they
have been dinged
When they are outside walking in
the rain they look like an accident waiting to happen
They
can’t get their shoes on the right foot
They
are clumsy with tools, and dangerous with power tools
They
get lost in the moment
They
talk about money before they will talk about anything else
They
lack a sense of time
They
can be insulting without realizing it
Finally, a Dingbat Professional
gets goofy every now and then for some reason. I suppose you mind find another
hundred reason for this study, but these should be of some help to you.

About the Book
The book REALIFE is a collection of stories. Some of them are true, and some are not, but then it’s up to you to decide which are the realife stories. I wrote some of these stories as pilots for further movie scripts; however, they are mostly written in story telling form. There will be three books in this series of stories. There are a great variety of subjects in these stories, so I’m sure that you’ll find something that you like in these books.
Realife takes you on an adventure to find out who we are, and what we are doing here on this earth. It explores hidden mysteries to some extent without often solving them completely. Realife allows you to understand why people are the way that they are. Some of these stories will not only fascinate you, and amaze you, but they will make you laugh a little. I attempt to use what I call hidden punch line humor. Even a serious story might slap you in the face with a statement that will either make you laugh or cry. When I wrote the story, “You Have To Keep Momma Happy,” I’ll tell you I had a laughing party right here on my computer.
A lot of the stories are serious. Some have educational value, and then a lot of them are entertaining. On a personal note I want to say that a lot of my work comes from thirty years of experience. I’ve been beat up plenty in life. When you read my stories you’ll understand that. A CEO once asked me where did you get this stuff. I smile and said nothing, but when you spend the better part of your life taking a beating, then you tend to learn a few things about people, and about life. That’s how I came up with the idea for this book. Let’s face it you can really only write about something that you know, and real life has a way of teaching you a few things.
About the Author
The thinking behind my writing is that people who get some knowledge as well as entertainment value from these stories. One of the things that I try to achieve in my work is what I term the Aesthetic moment. That unseen force that makes the work unique. The place where the whole and the sum of the parts link up to form a powerful creative unit. Have I achieved this goal? Possibly I have, but then it’s up to you to make that decision. I can only write what I feel and believe that I can write. Another thing, I have deliberately set out to write short stories. People today will take the time to read a few pages, but a long drawn out book is another matter. Although I enjoy reading them, I must admit I as other people have little time for it. In today’s world you have to get to the point pretty fast, or people lose interest. Life moves too fast, and life is far too complicated today. Then we have computers, TV, movies, and radio.
