What You Don't Know About Heating & Cooling Your Home . . . IS Costing You Money

Hopefully you have grasped the basics of the system that heats and
cools your home. It is a fact that uneducated consumers who buy things that
they know little about, are taken advantage of more often than a person who
knows what they want and knows a little bit about it. I would bet that most of
you reading this right now have been sold parts or replacement equipment even
though you may not have needed it. Think back to why you replaced the air
conditioning system in the first place and remember what you were told was
wrong with it that was not repairable. Was it freezing up due to a leak
in the evaporator coil that could not be repaired” or was it freezing up simply
due to a dirty filter, coil or a bad fan motor?
Was your compressor really grounded or was it just a bad
capacitor, burnt wire or defective contactor that prevented the compressor from
operating? Something that could have cost you only a few hundred dollars to
repair may have cost you several thousand dollars to replace. You will never
know at this point and most likely do not remember the exact circumstances that
influenced your decision to replace the system. If it was older than ten years,
replacing it was probably a good choice.
If your present system is ten years old or older, replacing it soon
should be considered, even if the system is currently operating. Most
appliances do not stay ten years in any home and most do much less work than
your heating or air conditioning system. Furnace and air conditioning systems
are much more expensive to replace than a washer, dryer or refrigerator, but
they perform one of the most important functions in your home.

The book has been broken down into several chapters, each dedicating
itself to a specific type of heating and air conditioning system. Other
chapters explain the basics of maintaining and servicing those specific types
of equipment in a way as to simplify the operation, cleaning and repairs of the
type of HVAC system that may be in your home.
The most common types in service today are covered within these pages as
well as advanced high efficiency equipment seen more often today. The book would not be complete without
covering the heating and cooling equipment of many years ago; which can still
be found in use today.
It is always recommended that a
homeowner call a professional to repair any item within the home. You should
however become familiar with the heating and cooling equipment that is in your
home to ensure that you get the type of honest and professional service that
you deserve. Within these pages you will find many ways to be sure that you are
getting your moneys worth out of your heating and cooling equipment -- and out
of your service company. It is all written in easy to understand words.
About the Author
Steven Gillespie has been in the heating, air conditioning and
refrigeration field since 1987, starting his career with the U.S.A.F. After
separating from the U.S.A.F. in 1992 he dedicated several years of his life to
self-employment. Steven resides in the coastal South Carolina area and has been
in the HVAC/R field for nearly sixteen years. He has answered thousands of
questions from homeowners and serviced thousands of pieces of equipment. He has realized how little most people know
about the important items in their home and hopes that by simplifying things it
will help avoid the unnecessary and often large amounts of money being spent on
repairs or replacement of heating and air conditioning equipment in the home.
