Seeds of Love

Carmella scoots to the edge of her chair, as she leans awkwardly with her hand on her lower back and her right hand gripping the arm of the chair. She pushes her hand deep into her back in an effort to lift her huge belly...with me inside.  Standing up slowly she sighs with relief then sways to the front door, closing it to block the burning rays of the sun.  Moving to the kitchen to find relief she opens the freezer, picks up a few ice cubes and moderately rubs the cubes on her forehead, around her face, down her neck and across her breast, thinking this will cool her off.  But this day is hotter than any other and the ice cubes quickly melt into warm water.  She wipes the water from her neck and face leaving the rest to run down her chest and over her swollen stomach. The water soaks through her blouse, as she massages her stomach molding the blouse to her roundness.

Her radio is barely audible from the corner desk because the oscillating fan is noisily stirring the hot air, but when the Everly Brother’s latest hit, “All I have to do is dream” comes on, she turns the volume up. Profiling with her back against the edge of the doorway she caresses her stomach and hums along with the music.

The disk jockey yells through the radio; “I’m going to take you back a few years with ‘Rock around the Clock’ by Bill Haley and The Comets.” Carmella smiles at hearing this song. This was the song that was playing when Lloyd first noticed her.
