It’s often a challenge because we just don’t want to let go. We like to be in control.
Think for a moment of flying a fighter jet. Let’s say you know nothing about them, much less flying one. You don’t know what all the gauges mean, how much fuel it holds, how far you can go...nothing! Yet, you feel compelled to fly this thing...on your own. People around you try to help, and you resist. You get in the jet and amazingly get it started and in the air. Once you are airborne, you begin to experience difficulty, so you cry out to God. He gives you an answer, but it isn’t the one you want, nor the one you think you need, so you continue to struggle to keep the jet from crashing. The harder you struggle, the more impatient and exhausted you become. You get mad. You are mad at God for not helping you. You are mad at those who tried to help because they didn’t try hard enough or tell you the right things. As you continue in your own decisions and your own strength and your own wisdom, you eventually crash. You may have a few broken bones, maybe some more serious than others, but you are alive and okay for the most part. As you lay in the rubble of the once intact jet, you wonder what went wrong. You begin to cry out to God again (because you have to...what else can you do now?) You begin to hear that still, small voice speaking to you, and you realize what went wrong.

About the Author
Jennifer Miller lives in rural Oklahoma with her husband Frank. They have been married for 13 years, living in Kansas for four of those years. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1994. Working with children is something Jennifer has always enjoyed, and she has taught elementary school for seven years. She also enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends, spoiling her nieces and nephews, writing, and baking.
Personal hardships of losing loved ones, issues of infertility, and dealing with day to day issues have taught Jennifer how to rely on the Lord for her daily strength. These circumstances have brought her to a new level in her walk with God.
