AFTER the Bubble

Invoking “Speculator Mind Response” (S.M.R.) reflects a sharpened set of investing instincts. Imagine maximizing your every investment dollar by invoking only those decisions that are in your best interest. Your empowerment would enable you to ring your cash register with almost every opportunity, regardless of economic conditions. Ultimately, you would be able to grow your wealth and, just as important, always protect it!

It doesn’t matter whether you are a short-run investor or still in the market for the long haul. You are a indeed a speculator. And it doesn’t  matter whether you are personally in a bull or bear market at the moment. The difference between growing an IRA or a 401-k today from a bear-beaten-down “201-k” of yesterday is the same as it has always been:  Your success in the markets centers on self control over those internal traits that have the proclivity to lead you down some path toward fiscal ruin.

If there was ever a “best rule” based on all of the past bull-to-bear market experiences, what might it be? In light of the bubble burst of America’s greatest bull-market in history, I would vote for the one that supports the premise that once you bank your wins, never allow yourself to ever lose them.

Well, some of you may sigh and say that kind of hindsight is a bit late for you today. Then again, what if it isn’t? What if your speculator mind could be sharpened to create better and more consistent profits than ever before? Would that interest you?

Imagine your mental-management system, groomed to be as sharp and powerful as the best speculative minds around. Bingo! You would be on a track better than before, ringing your own cash register with profits and keeping them for all those enjoyable plans you had always envisioned.

Your NOW is Far More Important Than Yesterday

It may be easy for some pundits to arrogantly criticize just how Wall Street played more like a casino than a vehicle for investment allocation. Yet, where was that wisdom when all of the bubble mania was happening? They were probably buying tech stocks like everyone else.

Not every market-bubble hindsight is truly 20/20, though. While some may condemn the influencing greed of Wall Street’s piping analysts, ill-charactered and lying CEOs with their associated, crooked-accounting schemes, they often fail to point toward the industry itself, duping the investing public by coercing them to be dependent on them for their thinking. That, in my opinion, is the often overlooked portion of this latest, market-bubble travesty.

If what’s done is done, and life is expected to go on as before, then why is it so difficult for the masses to make money after the bubble? Is it the fear of past losses repeating? If so, then that explains why the simple ringing of so many cash registers appears to be missing these days.  

In my opinion, fear to go back into the market waters is merely a symptom. There is always a more underlying cause; in this case, the lack of independent thinking and the control our human nature’s response to Wall Street’s influences. 

Now just how serious is this? Without a doubt, many have already  incurred 401-k and IRA losses of 50%; hence my earlier pun, “201-k”. In some cases, I have personally heard of 65% losses and more. Needless to say, some retirement plans have had to be literally placed on hold; and that’s another travesty.

The issue, though, becomes deeper as we ponder the future. In this writer’s opinion, without the wisdom of independent thinking (cause), we will surely be destined to repeat, like history, any and all errors of past judgments; and that is a signifcant danger.  

I think that comment makes the point. Even if these diminished accounts were the result of personal investing violations, honest market decisions that simply just didn’t pan out, or from misplaced trust by following advice that didn’t hold true, the results were the same. People lost money; and they needed it to survive economically.

If any of that pertains to you at all, then maybe it is time to refocus your own mindset with regard to trading and investing, because, contrary to popular belief, not everyone lost money! That’s right; and I don’t mean the crooks. Many “honest” traders kept their wealth, while some actually grew the value of their portfolios.
