About the Book
This is a 20th century odyssey that takes place in the ancient city of Thera on the Greek island of Santorini. During an earthquake, the back wall of the Grotto of Hermes and Heracles collapses revealing steps leading down into two separate caves. On the walls, engravings of the Egyptian Goddess, Isis and the Greek God Apollo convince the local archaeologist, Nikos Konstantinou, that the caves must be prehistoric because it was at that time in history that Greeks and Egyptians honored both Gods.
The Athens Archaeological Society allows wealthy Americans, Brant and Merit Powers to finance the exploration. Two others join the team: Wade Stanton, noted speleologist and geologist and his friend, Dr. Matt McGuire, a part-time caver and surgeon. They are quartered in a small compound in the village of St. Demetrius where Nikos, Anna Brady, a widow and her daughter, Katina also reside. Before long relationships and conflicts develop, and the strengths and weaknesses of the Americans are revealed. Only one is motivated by greed and an obsession to possess ancient treasures. The others remain honored to have the privilege of working on the ancient archaeological site. While ghosts and vampires haunt ancient Thera at night, suspense intensifies during the day as the team inches their way from the present to the past. Terrifying events plague them while exciting archaeological finds encourage them to continue. When they discover a spectacular cavern, their great expectations are rewarded but at a terrible price.
This unusual odyssey also brings the reader memorable moments of romance, humor and pathos. This odyssey is a fast-moving adventure with many interwoven events that will keep the reader in anticipation to the last moment.
