About the Book

It was while assisting her mentor, Bernarr Macfadden, as his protégée  in her  late teens, that Jean Farrar first became acquainted with Yoga through contact with the many swamis and teachers (such as Paramhansa  Yogananda), who were

Macfadden’s frequent guests at his several health spas. The opportunity to work with dozens of celebrities as diverse as Jimmy Durante and Albert Einstein stood

Jean in good stead after Macfadden’s death, for a number of them continued as her students and friends when she opened her own ashram at the old Desert Inn in Palm Springs. Her classes  at the various clubs and resorts in the area,  and her

being chosen as Miss Palm Springs and the Western Week and Desert Circus Queen further enlarged her acquaintance with many other personages as dissimilar as Groucho Marx, Elvis Presley and Howard Hughes.

On a less glamorous scale, but one of solid achievement, she has also taught

Yoga for the City of Palm Springs, the Coachella Valley Recreation Department, the Palm Springs High School, the College of the Desert, the Braille Institute, the Handicapped and Mentally Retarded Foundation of the Desert, and for the Los Angeles  Angels  baseball team during their spring training in Palm Springs.

She has appeared on many  television talks shows and had her own radio program for three years. She has been a lecturer and private instructor  for the Betty Ford Alcoholics Awareness Program and the Drug Abuse Program at Eisenhower Memorial Hospital in Rancho Mirage. At one time she was also the protégée of songwriter Jimmy McHugh and recorded some of his songs for MGM.

Yogini Jean’s lifelong interest in and experience with pets, and how she adapted Yoga for their use, is described throughout this book. She is presently at work on her next offering, which will relate a number of humorous vignettes about some of the international celebrities who have been her students and  friends. She is also preparing a video cassette showing her Aqua-Yoga method for weight control, which she introduced on the Pritikin Program in Palm Springs several years ago.
