CHAPTER ONE

GRANNY’S HOUSE

Timmy was sitting next to the window, in his eighth grade history grade class. He was looking outside daydreaming. He was thinking about his granny, her farm, and the trip he would take later in the day .  The bell started ringing. Timmy’s friend Bobby May stopped at the classroom door. He looked back at Timmy and saw he was not moving but instead staring  into outer space. Bobby went over to him and shook his shoulder. “Hey man, are you coming? Didn’t you hear the bell ringing?”

“No man, I was just daydreaming  I guess, Bobby.”

“ It must have been a good one.”

“Yes it was. I was thinking of all the fun I will have at my granny’s house.” Timmy and Bobby walked home just like they had every day of school that year. Along the way they talked about Timmy’s trip that he was going to take that weekend.

“Hey man, sounds like you got it all planned out.”

“Well kind of, Bobby, but this time it will be a little sad. Because my granddad Charles won’t be there.”

“Yeah, I know, you told me he died a few months ago. We’ll have a good time anyway. See you around later man.” He Timmy ran skipping through the house, calling his mother’s name. Her name was Sarah.

“Tim, I am in here, in your room.”

All he could think about was the trip and how exciting it was to return to the farm and property.  Timmy’s mother said to him, “Stop your running in the house, son. You might break something.”

“Ok mom,” he said to her. She was in Timmy’s

bedroom packing his clothes.  Timmy rushed into the room and said, “When are we leaving to go to Granny’s, mom?”

 “In a few minutes, Timmy, I am almost finished packing your suitcase. Now, you are going to have to promise me. That you are going to behave while at Granny's

“Yes mom.”

“You know son, granny is nearly eighty years old. The last time you stayed at Granny’s, you got sprayed by a skunk.”

“Well mom, it was the dog’s fault, he ran into the bushes ahead of me. The skunk let us both have it.”

Granny wouldn't allow him back on her porch for a week. Timmy steeped in his bedroom his Sara had gone back to the kitchen to check on supper. While Timmy finished the packing that he had started a week ago. He grabbed his back pack, binoculars, and his hunting knife. He put all of it in his back pack. Timmy grabbed his 22 rifle.

“Timmy, what‘s that for?”

“In case I see a squirrel or snake I will need it.” She told him that he could take the, rifle under one condition. He had to keep the safety on at all times.  He took all of his gear and rifle to their blazer and opened up the hatch.  Timmy's mother came outside and loaded his luggage. She had packed enough for him to stay one week.

“Son, are you ready to go?”

“Yes mom.” Timmy and his mother got in the blazer and drove down to the country store down the road from their house.  It was also on the road to Granny’s. They pulled up to the store and got out.

“Son, here’s twenty dollars, give it to the store clerk.”

Timmy entered the store, and his best friend was standing at the sales counter checking out. Bobby as usual was buying a load of bubble gum and comic books. “Hey Timmy, what’s up man?”

Timmy replied, “I am going to Granny’s house.”

Bobby said, “Wow man, I know you are excited to be going. Hey man, are you going to do any exploring?”.

“You bet, Bobby, I have all of my stuff with me. You know, all the important stuff. My binoculars, rifle, water cantina, my hunting knife and a lot of other stuff.” “Cool Man.”
