HANDS HELD IN PRAYER

He has glimpsed at wrenched hands
Of parents, held in prayer:
“Lord spare our precious Giles,
With his cherub’s baby smiles”.

He has smiled down on hands
Held by a bride and groom.
They were married: not alone,
“Lord bless our marriage home”.

He has seen weather-beaten hands
Of a farmer’s, held in prayer,
“Please hold back that gale,
With clouds filled with hail”.

He has frowned down on hands
Held by a selfish child,
“Please Lord give me this,
And this, and this, and this”.

He has held the answers in his hands,
And weighed them very carefully,
With each prayer he would always contemplate,
In good time and within their fate.

A KIND PERSON

What a kind person to feed the ducks,
On a windy day, with her hair a muss.

They gather around with a
Quack, quack, quack;
“Hurry, feed us,” they hungrily fuss.

She laughs and plays with them each day.
Then hurries down the road to meet her Jack.

They watch her come and watch her go.
They run to greet her with a
Quack, quack, quack.

LIFE IS WORTH LIVING

We are born to this
Earth for many seasons.
While we are here,
Some find the reasons.
The disappointments of life
Can hit a hard blow.
Even as we grow older,
The adjustments come slow.
The reasons for being
Are not always clear,
But once they are found
They can bring a tear.
Those who discover
Them on their own
Must know that God
Helped them find it alone.

SEVEN YEARS

Candlelight at six,
Wine and steaks.
We visit through the flame,
Enjoying the sight.
It does not matter if we speak,
For all that has been said
Will be shared again
On another night.
Think of the days,
When we were sweethearts,
Not a worry or a care,
Ever crossed out hearts.
Being together is short
By the stars,
So let us cherish it,
Like a great gift from above.
