I make my way off the boat and into the bright sun shine.
I survey the area. This would be one hell of a vacation spot if it wasn’t for
the killers lurking about. The dock, a
long wooden runway about one hundred feet long, is completely deserted. The dock leads to a small cabana sitting on
the sand by itself. From here it looks like the only thing on this island is
the dock and the cabana. There are plenty of palm trees circling the cabin and
the rest of the beach front. Off in the distance is an island that looks to be
about the size of a postage stamp. I see something that resembles a boat
motoring back and forth along its shore line, hopefully Caruso and company.
We get off the boat and our driver motions us up the
dock towards the cabana. He takes off, not a good sign. Then, from the cabana,
I see Jennifer and someone else walking toward us. She is waving. The gentleman
does not look familiar.
“Who is that?” Questions Joe.
“Beats me,” is about all I have in me.
They are walking toward us which I take as a good
sign and not a trick. We’ll meet about half way up the dock. Jennifer, dressed
in a light sundress, and the gentleman, who looks forty and fit is wearing
shorts, tee shirt, flips flops, a wide brimmed straw hat and smoking a cigar
the size of my forearm look, very happy to see us.
“Mr. Biltmore, it’s nice to see you again. I’m sorry
I forgot your son’s name.”
“Joe, and this is Phillip,” I give up. “And you are?” Holding my breath.
“Robert Martelli, Mr. Biltmore, nice to meet you.”
Chevy Chase couldn’t do a double take any
better. Joe and Phillip are staring at
Martelli. I wanted to act like Moe and poke them both in the eyes.
Jennifer gives a laugh, “Surprised?”
Trying to hide my surprise, “Nothing surprises me
anymore about this case.”
“Follow us Mr. Biltmore and we’ll try and explain.”
Beckons Martelli. I really don’t want to.
“Look we’ve been on that plane for awhile I was
wondering if we could talk out here for a little. Joe got sick on the plane and
the fresh air will do him good.”
“I know what you mean, I’ll never ride in one of
those things again.” Jennifer offers in sympathy. I notice someone else moving
in the cabana.
“Could we at least head inside for a cool drink?”
Martelli offers as our host. He sees me staring at the cabana. “Do not worry
Mr. Biltmore. This is not a set up. We need you, not unlike Mr. Winterfield who
would rather you go away.”
With that Jennifer and Martelli turn and head for
the cabana. My two companions and I pause and look at each other for
guidance. I glance over my shoulder for
support from Forester who is probably looking at me but with the sun glare I do
not see anything.

About the Book
Jamaica Biltmore; Cash, Guns and Fly Rods is fast paced, quick witted novel about a New York private eye who drags his son to Key West and Las Vegas in order to convince his son being a private eye is better then going to college. Joe agrees to try it for the summer though Jamaica claims, " No guns for part time work."
Specializing mostly in finding missing people, the case of a life time takes Jamaica and Joe on a roller coaster ride through the streets of New York, to the Caribbean, Key West and Las Vegas. In order to show his son a good time he enlist the help from a New York City Police Captain, a local mobster, an ex-CIA operative, an FBI agent and an Admiral in the United States Navy.
The case starts as any normal missing persons case until his client is crushed to death by a dump truck of hot asphalt. The novel picks up speed from that first encounter and does not stop until we arrive back in New York City where Jamaica's son, Joe, must make his decision about college or a life as a private eye.
About the Author
Thomas Greco’s first novel is a cross between Fletch and Indiana Jones. Thomas has relied on his twenty years in the construction industry and his passion for fishing to create a roller coaster mystery. Having been in New York City for the last twenty years he has gained much insight into the construction business to weave a plausible story.
Thomas is currently working on the next Jamaica Biltmore story starting where Jamaica Biltmore: Cash, Guns and Fly Rods has left off. He lives on Long Island with his wife and four children.
