It is important for all patients to be able to verbalize their concerns, questions when diagnosed with a serious illness, especially a life-threatening one. It is equally important that they be able to understand the different options available to fight the disease. If this requires asking the doctor to repeat the diagnosis, and possible treatments again and again, give yourself permission to continue asking until you fully understand all the medical findings and options. A lot of patients remain quiet or agree with the doctor for appearance’s sake. They don’t want to appear too ignorant about not understanding terminology that is not within their scope of knowledge. Never allow the doctor to have that power over you. He is there to help you! Having a clear understanding of the disease and treatment options will help you make the best possible choices for yourself.
Learning you have a disease that is invading your body and that can take your life, while trying to sort out all the information received, can be overwhelming and frightening. Having a plan of action to fight the disease helps tremendously by relieving the fear and giving you control. No matter how small the plan is it is still very helpful to maintaining a positive attitude and giving you a sense of control.
So it was with me. Cancer was invading my breasts and participating in all aspects of my care gave me a sense of control – rather than the disease controlling me. Not actively participating in your care can be “hazardous to your health!”

About the Book
Everyone has a story to tell, everyone has a book to write. This is a story of how a thirty-six year old active single parent triumphed over bilateral breast cancer and a recurrence. Like a lot of single Mothers, she had to be the Homemaker/Breadwinner rolled into one, as she fought the fight of her life.
The tools she chose to fight this insidious disease were journaling, positive attitude, extended research and most important her deep centered faith.

About the Author
For twenty-one years she has used journaling as a tool for healing, understanding, discovering and exploring freely on paper her thoughts and feelings. So, it was very natural for her to pick up a pen when diagnosed with breast cancer.
She journals as a means to surrender adversity and joy to a God who is active in her life, which enables her to find answers within as she continues to develop new behaviors that are more loving and nurturing to others and herself.
