CHAPTER ONE
Today was the start of an interesting turn of events in my life. At first, everything was just as predictable as the previous day.
"Yo Chuck, hold up!" Jack, the pimpled faced monster, yelled from down the hall.
He looked so pathetic and desperate as he approached me in his oversized clothes. These clothes did not fit him because his parents couldn't afford to buy appropriate clothes, they were oversized because he thought his clothes looked good that way. He has been a bully ever since I met him two years ago when we were in the fifth grade. He hasn't changed one bit. Nobody really liked to be around him -- not even the other bullies. Even though he was enormous for the seventh grade, the coaches didn't want him on any athletic team because of his nasty attitude. So instead of doing something productive with his time, he chose to bother us normal size kids.
"Do you have it on you now or should I get it during lunch?" asked Jack.
"I have it now, give me a second," I replied as I rummaged through my book bag looking for the academic fix that Jack craved so bad.
I almost felt sorry for this pitiful bully when I caught a glimpse of the sweat beading on his pimpled forehead. He was at my mercy.
"Here it is. Multiplying fractions and mixed numbers, that was the homework, wasn't it?" I asked with an air of arrogance.
"Give me that!" Jack said as he snatched the homework assignment out of my hand. "And next time don't make me wait so long," the enormous beast bellowed as he lumbered back down the hall.
"He doesn't have a clue," I said as I watched him walk off as if he had just won another victory over me.
I continued to make my way down the hall so I could attend my student council meeting. I forgot what it was we were to discuss at this meeting. All I knew was that Shannon Bryant was also on the student council, and I had an opportunity to see her.
Upon entering the meeting I noticed that almost everyone was present, including Shannon. Mr. Irby, the school guidance counselor, started the meeting by addressing a problem that a lot of teachers brought up during a recent staff meeting.
"It has been brought to my attention by a number of your teachers, that many students don't have the required textbooks," said Mr. Irby.
At this point I got the gist of his whole speech, therefore I diverted my attention to Shannon. She sat across from me at the circular shaped table, and that position was just what I needed to get a full view of her pretty brown face. I don't think everyone thought she was the prettiest girl in the school, but to me she was beauty personified.

About the Book
Some people say it is impossible for a skinny, nerdy kid to hook up with a beautiful and stylish girl. Chuck thought so as well, but his big mouth and all of his pride got him into a situation that he could not turn away from. The nerdy Chuck must accompany the beautiful Shannon to the biggest dance of the school year, or pay up on a bet and face the ridicule of his "adoring" friends. Chuck knows deep down inside that Shannon wouldn't walk with him in public, let alone be his date for a big dance. With this knowledge, Chuck knows he must "un-nerd" himself, and step into the world of "cool-dom" in order to date his queen. He must accomplish his task while being pestered for homework assignments by the abnormally big and menacing bully known as Jack.
About the Author
Curtis Easley was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. He has always been one to do more listening than talking, and in doing so he has found that everyday life is filled with interesting stories. Currently, Curtis is working as a fifth grade teacher in the Bronx, where he describes his job as inspiring. "There are many stories that unfold before my eyes during the course of a normal day. As a writer, I am very fortunate to be in such a fertile place." Curtis also has a strong interest in filmmaking.
