WHITE CAT
We had Bassie who chased cats out of his backyard, but he had accepted Ginger, as if it were meant to be and Ginger loved Bassie. We had a nice, peaceful little family. We had not thought about another cat.
But here was this cold white cat meowing at our door. She was so cold, she would raise one paw at a time to keep it off the cold concrete.
I should start at the beginning. Sometime around June, this scruffy white cat started showing up at our door. We have a full glass storm door and when this white cat would come to the door we would tell Ginger she had company. She would run to the front door. The white cat and Ginger would sit one inside and one outside for hours and "talk" to each other. If our front door were not open, the white cat would go to our back door wall and look in. This was cute for awhile. We worried about the cat being outside when it was really hot, so we put water out for her. She would come over every day about the same time. We thought this must be when her family let her outside.
As it started getting cold outside, we became concerned. I called our local dog pound to see if anyone had reported a white cat missing. No one had. We put a box outside for her and she would stay in it for the few hours she visited our house. She always came and went about the same time every day. Then around Christmas we didn’t see her for about two weeks. We were hoping someone had her in a nice warm home. We were still not sure she was a stray. But also in the back of our minds was the fear that something bad might have happened. Which brings us to the beginning of our white cat story.

About the Author
Diane Fenstermacher recently moved to Tennessee with her husband Brian, a black Labrador named Bassie, and three cats, Ginger, Patches, and Charlie.
She’s been an animal lover her entire life. Her mother always had at least one cat in the house, and her father liked having a bird dog around. So it seemed natural to have cats and dogs around her own home as an adult.
Diane’s pets have meant so much to her that she wanted to share their stories. The helpful hints have come from years of living with cats and dogs, and the always important veterinarian.
This is Diane’s second book on animals. And with the group she lives with, there could be more stories to follow.
