About the Book

Love and War is a family saga spanning four generations of women. It tells the story of regal Wun Kim, who came from a time when women bound their feet in China, who immigrates to America in the late-nineteenth century. It tells the story of her daughter Clarice, who marries a man outside of her heritage in World War II Hawaii. It tells the story of the beautiful wayward Samantha, Clarice’s daughter, who goes to California and makes her way. It tells the story of ambitious Skylar from the next generation who grows up in Pacific Northwest suburbia and her endless quest for identity, and the possibilities for her in today’s America. It tells the story of America, and the family ties that bind us together. The saga contrasts the character’s lives, times, and expectations, but certain things are timeless and too good to change. Family plays an ever important role as these women follow their dreams, and the possibilities of life in America are boundless – each character must follow their heart as they pursue the American Dream – their careers, a home, travel, happiness, true love, the choice to marry whoever they want, and above all, family. These are choices that face not only women in America, but anyone anywhere in the world who is inspired by the possibilities of life in America and the ideals of the American Dream.
