Who said that life was going to be fair?
I had pondered this question over a thousand times in my mind. I could never come up with a good answer. It appeared to me that bad people always enjoyed life, and the good people always suffered. Big Mama would say, "Dae’Mon, that’s me, good people will get their reward in the end when they reach the gates of heaven."
I wasn't so sure about that because the state my personal life was in made it appear that I had reached the gates of hell. I had made two bad relationship choices in the past that left me feeling empty on the inside and yearning for more. I vowed to never love again and was successful for five years. Then, I met someone who offered promises of love, hope and prosperity. I fell deeply in love. Unlike the others though, my heart was left with a wound that was so severe that I wasn't sure if I would recover.
And I was left questioning myself, how did this happen to me?

"Love beat the hell out of me!" That’s the best phrase to describe Dae’Mon Greene’s feelings toward relationships. Just the thought of being in love is more than he can bear! Yet after years of running, love finally catches up to him when he least expects it. It begins on a very cold New Year’s Eve night as Dae’Mon prepares to attend a New Year’s Gala with his friends, Kevyn and Justine, better known as Justice. The night promises to be filled with fun and excitement. However, it ends amidst hurt and resentment as Dae’Mon falls for the man that Kevyn has been chasing for years. Just when Dae’Mon learns to relax and begins to enjoy his new love, the past comes back to haunt him. And the question that remains, What’s Dae’Mon to do?
About the Author
A 1994 graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in theatre and film, J. Aundre’ Clinton makes his literary debut with Sins From the Past.
