"Not no; but, HELL no!" The four stars on General Brown's shoulders seemed to shake as he yelled across the table at his chief of staff and Peter Andrews. "I had assumed that you two spoke English when we were in the ambassador's office yesterday." Major General Dan Tvrdy had not had his "ass chewed" since he was a young lieutenant. This time he didn't care. It was his turn to make a firm decision. If he retired as a two star, so be it. He was ready to "rock and roll." That was the term he used in Vietnam when his soldiers put their M-16 rifles on fully automatic. He was a soldier. Soldiers took care of their people and brought them out when they could. If he personally had to go in to ensure the extraction, he would do it. "Sir, yesterday you gave us the authority to find out what Captain Kingsley had in mind. Now we know the when and the where. He is going to be at Panmunjom Tuesday afternoon. So am I!" Major General Dan Tvrdy now weighed his words carefully to get the backing of his boss. "Sir, we have two alternatives at this time. One we support Captain Kingsley's departure from the North or two we let him fall flat on his face in front of the whole world." The room grew quiet and nothing was said for almost a minute. Now was the time for them to let General Brown digest the alternatives. "What do I tell the ambassador?" General Brown's question was more thinking aloud than asking. The devious Dan Tvrdy had the answer that none of them liked; but one they all accepted. "Sir, I recommend you not make a formal decision until 1400 hours this afternoon. At that time the ambassador will be on his plane heading toward Washington for his vacation. In his absence, we can go forward with our plan."

About the Book
As the author gazed into North Korea, he wondered if there could be any Americans left behind after all these years. From this grew Sleeping Dragon. M. Pete Peterson takes a step back to the early ’90s. It is now, just a bit more than forty years since the Korean War. Intelligence experts stumble upon a strange radio message. Someone wants to "come home." Is it a prank? Then again, some think it is a communist agent trying to defect. Then it could be something else. Could it be the strangest of all possibilities? Maybe it is the voice of an American pilot declared dead after his plane was shot down. The problem: his plane was last seen in burnt rubble? There was no parachute before the crash. The military leadership must break the rules to identify the "caller" each night; but the "caller" has a greater risk – his life. It was a plan that might lead him into a bloody fight in the truce village of the demilitarized zone. To the "caller," success will be either death or freedom.
About the Author
M. Pete Peterson grew up in Columbus, Nebraska just a couple of hours from Omaha. As the war in Vietnam raged and with the draft on the horizon, he enlisted in the Army to service as a Korean Linguist in the Army Security Agency. After spending almost a year in Monterey, California learning to speak Korean at the Defense Language School, he moved to Korea. Since then he has spent almost half of his adult life in Korea filling various intelligence and administrative positions. In the midst of this, he has also graduated from the University of the State of New York with a Bachelor of Science Degree and Christendom College – Notre Dame Graduate School with a Master of Arts Degree. He now resides in Seoul, Korea with his wife and two grandsons.
