She heard his car as it drove off down the drive. She stood looking out the bay window when she was suddenly uneasy. She physically shook herself and explored the next room. It was smaller and possibly appropriate for Randy's office. She was reminded of Mr. Hawkins' insistence that the house be viewed during the day. She tried to shake off the mounting fear she felt by reminding herself it was just a building. It was no use. She was frightened. There was a dormant evil that she could feel palpitating in the very atmosphere of the house. She couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. She quickly moved on to the next room and was stunned to find a dark stain that was large enough to be noticeable in the corner. A close inspection of the spot indicated that several unsuccessful attempts had been made to remove it. She was stunned at her own thoughts. Could it be blood? Was that what she felt here? Could a murder have happened within these walls? If these walls could talk, what story would they have to tell? She shivered. She left the room quickly and entered the master bedroom. This room seemed the most comfortable room for her and Randy to share. A glance out the window made her suddenly aware that darkness would soon be upon her. She flipped the light switch by the door and to her surprise nothing happened. She touched it again in panic and still found herself in the growing shadows. Randy had said the electricity had been turned on. Maybe Mr. Hawkins had failed to check up on it. Panic began to seize her. She walked over to the window that offered the most light and looked towards the mountain range. Her heart pounded in her chest and she began to sweat profusely. She counted to ten, calmed herself and prepared to brave the hallway and wait outside for Randy's return. Suddenly she froze. From the attic above she heard clearly the sound of footsteps. Fear clutched her. Her thoughts rambled on. The only logical conclusion was that someone had entered the house without her knowledge.

About the Book
Randy and Skye Curran are new residents in Gallup, New Mexico where Randy has just accepted the position of Executive Director of the Crisis Center. Their pursuit for a house leads them to Jared Hawkins who materializes mysteriously with an offer difficult to turn down. The house on Hillcrest is not the most beautiful place they have seen but the price is right and it has exquisite potential. Yet all is not as it appears to be, and Skye is forced to dig deep into the past history of her new home and neighbors as unseen eyes follow her through her home and footsteps echo throughout the gray adobe house. Her desperate pursuit for the truth takes some troublesome twists and turns until Skye uncovers an unsolved murder and a mysterious disappearance. Her discovery now gives someone a reason to consider killing again.
About the Author
Debbie A. Heaton has always adored books and this passion has led to a lifelong love of reading and writing stories. She is a seventeen-year veteran of Social Services with a career that has focused on working as a Substance Abuse Counselor, a Case Manager for the Seriously Mentally Ill population and most recently she has provided a violence prevention program to her community. Texas born, Debbie has spent her life in the Southwest and currently resides in Thatcher, Arizona with her twenty-two year old daughter, Marsha. She enjoys reading (naturally!), photography and has a tremendous love for nature and wildlife.
