Justin woke, sat up and looked at rows of hills. The countryside was beautiful and ocean air filled his nostrils in a refreshing way, He heard sea gulls everywhere. Where am I? he wondered. He felt frightened and rubbed his eyes. Where’s Jiffy?
"Jiffy? Where are you boy?" Jiffy barked and ran out of the bushes. Justin held out his arms. When the dog jumped into his arms, he held it so tightly, it whimpered. "Sorry, Boy. I’m just happy to see you. We have to find out where we are. Let’s see if we can find someone to ask. Justin heard footsteps and turned to see a young boy approaching. "Hi," the boy said. "You look lost. What’s your name and where are you going?’ He asked so many questions, Justin didn’t know which to answer first. "Sorry. Please forgive my manners. My name is Socrates. What’s yours?" Justin stared at the boy, who wore very unusual clothes. "I’m Justin and I think I am lost. This place doesn’t look familiar. Where’s my house and my mother? Where am I? What--? He stopped, realizing he was doing the same thing. Smith Thompson – Dream Bites Socrates stared at Justin, too, eyeing his clothes. They looked at each other and burst out laughing. "Why are you dressed like that? Socrates asked. "You don’t live around here, do you? "Dressed like what? I could ask you the same thing." Justin smiled. "I live in Pennsylvania and all the boys there dress like this." "Where’s Pennsylvania?" Justin looked at him for a moment. "It’s in the United States of America." He realized he wasn’t home. He tried to remember what happened. He had a delicious meal with his mother and they discussed a foreign country. What did she say about it? He looked around as her words came back to him. Such a beautiful country, with fresh air, rows of hills and mountain--
It can’t be! He turned and faced Socrates. "Where am I?"
"You’re in Greece." Justin couldn’t believe it. "Greece? How’d I get here?’

About the Book
Imagine eating a meal from an ethnic country, then falling asleep and waking up in that country. This is exactly what happened to Justin Treat. Justin is a little boy who does not like food. The only thing he does like to eat is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. His mother struggles to get him to eat anything else. For this reason, he is extremely small for his age. Yet, he and his mother are quite close, especially since the disappearance of his father. Together they work to make ends meet. But, everything changes for Justin when his mother accepts a job at an International Cuisine Restaurant. A dinner she brings home to entice him to eat brings about a number of surprises. Dream Bites provides a refreshing avenue to travel through a meal. You don’t want to miss this journey.
About the Author
Phyllis Smith Thompson is the oldest of three children. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she developed an interest in writing when she created a poem as an extra credit project for an English class in college. Since that time, she has received much recognition for her writing. Among these are the Golden Poet Award, the Accomplishment of Merit, Honorable Mentions for poetry and for her lyric writings from the American Song Festival and The Music City Song Festival. Her works have also appeared in wedding and funeral programs along with church bulletins. Her expressive style touches upon her many experiences in life where she voices them in various rhymes. As the mother of three and grandmother of four, Phyllis admits that each of them has influenced her writings. "Grandma’s Girl", a favorite, was inspired by her oldest granddaughter, Amber, when she was just two years old. Dream Bites is her first attempt at writing a short story.
