About the Book

The Uterine Connection is a novel about seven women whose ordinary lives are transformed when a gang of twelve teenage boys open fire upon hundreds of shoppers in a large, upscale Southern California mall, wounding and killing over three hundred women and children.

Sada, U.C.'s seventy year old heroine, suddenly finds herself within the four walls of the hospital ICU for weeks, ministering to her critically injured granddaughter Mia in a coma, actively entering the lives of other women brought together by the enormity of this disaster. The many mesmerizing and tireless qualities of Sada do not yield to this trauma, nor do they shy away from challenging herself, her personal God, and specific others.

As Sada is forced to pursue her own truths, shun her denial, and wrestle with the differing personalities of Judith, Stacey, Susan, Rodriguez, Marilyn and Ellen, Fate holds on tightly to her, and Sada becomes a unifying force in each of these women's lives.

Stirred by the magnitude of Sada's uniquely female response to adversity, those closest to her insist that she more openly herald this universal female genetic code, that she separate from her anonymity and assume the lead of a movement by women to end the acquisition of guns and the violence brought by the random use of guns. Fate herself, although not without unexpected heartache and challenge, helps Sada to overcome her reluctance to lead and to forge her Uterine Connection for an ultimately grateful nation to receive.

Humanity, thanks to both Sada and Fate, is reminded that it, too, can adhere to a higher calling. As for the uterus, Sada and Fate make evident that the seat of all human life rivals both bullet and the gun.

About the Author

For as long as Marilyn J. Blank can remember, others brought their secrets and emotional conflicts to her door. Never one to shy away from another's pain or conflict, forever drawn to decoding the complexities inherent in human dynamics and the issues underlying human loss, Marilyn’s fate was sealed at a young age.

Throughout her thirties, Marilyn actively participated in both the Women's Movement and the Human Potential Movement, emerging as a Gestalt therapist with a feminist perspective, and following graduate school, as a licensed clinical social worker with a passion for detecting and eliminating both individual and collective denial.

By the early 1980's, Marilyn, now living in Southern California, had joined the voices of other women who were speaking out about the hideous legacies of childhood and adult sexual assault. Lending her own voice to the unearthing of this form of violence led Marilyn to develop a specific therapeutic approach to treating adult survivors of rape and incest, to design and teach workshops for women and other professionals, and ultimately to write.

Marilyn's regard for the unique resources and strengths of women in the face of adversity remains sturdily intact today, as does her desire to dignify personal experiences and emotions shielded from the light of day. Her pursuit of personal and collective truth guides Marilyn in the creative realm as steadfastly as it always has in her work as a psychotherapist.

Conceived in a small town in Southern New Hampshire, The Uterine Connection's landscape, spirit and characters imposed their collective will, carrying Marilyn back to Southern California, to a small town in the desert, where she presently continues her practice of psychotherapy.
