Neffis felt a surge of energy when Sean used the Elfin Dream to communicate to the winged unicorn. He had hoped that the Earth-boy might have survived the quake, yet thought it impossible. Just as a precaution, he had kept his assassins searching throughout the Blago’s. He felt certain that they would find a dead Earth-boy. But he was wrong. The Earth-boy had managed to stay alive. Neffis’s whole essence smiled in a warm glow at the thought of truly escaping the Annul. He could only escape through the Earth-boy. Neffis quickly sent his assassins. ***** Kadar let out a quick whinny and two unicorns trotted up. One was jet black. The other was the spitting image of the white, Kadar, with the exception of a thin strip of black running across the tips of his stark white wings. Sean knew in an instant that this one was Mansur. Kadar informed them all to hang on tightly to their manes and wrap their legs around the girth as tight as possible. After a short farewell and thanks to Ren, they were off. The three winged unicorns flew in a triangle formation. Kadar led the way with Sean holding tightly to his mane. Tarnia was riding Mansur, flying to Sean's right. The young princesses, Hydia and Lycia, rode the swift Nasser. They had been flying for several hours over the Blago Mountain Range. It was a truly beautiful sight. From the air, the jagged, edged ridges turned soft. Deep dips in the land seemed to roll with ripples as the unicorns flew over them. Soon, the crashing sound of waves echoed through the air. Sean's eyes focused on the high cliffs that rose up from a turbulent ocean. Land and water met in a violent upheaval that thundered across the land. The huge waves lifted themselves up, battering against the hard granite rock. The granite had turned white from the acid water. Sean looked to his side. Tarnia smiled and waved. He gave a reassuring wave and looked to the Elf-girls. Hydia was up front, holding tightly to Nasser's mane. Lycia gripped her sister tightly around the waist. Both sisters were wide-eyed with excitement. Sean's smile broadened. He gave the girls a salute. They smiled and released a hand for a quick salute. Kadar's thoughts penetrated Sean's mind. "That's Seftin's Island just ahead." Sean looked between Kadar's white ears to see a dark form in the distance. This was where he had hoped to find the help he so desperately needed. Once he was with Seftin, he would feel safe. The minutes seemed to drag as the anticipation grew in his mind. The island drew closer. Details of the land became more distinct. This was a rough island of barren granite. The rock was no larger than a couple of football fields in size. Its jagged cliffs had a forbidding presence about them. Sean's hopes began to sink, and he wondered if they were in the right place. It was a big ocean, after all. They could be at the wrong island. They must be at the wrong island. Five dark figures came from the southeast, zigzagging toward them at breakneck speed. They too held a triangular formation, which zipped back and forth in unison. They were on top of the unicorns in an instant. Sean and Tarnia instinctively unsheathed their swords. Kadar ordered Nasser to flee to the far side of the island. The black stud took off in a blur that made it seem as if he were never there. The first assassin zipped past, claws reaching for Sean as it flew. Sean struck viciously for the assassin. At the same instant, Kadar dropped altitude to avoid the talons. The unexpected movement caused Sean to lose his grip on Kadar’s mane. Sean fell from the stallion. His arms flew wide in terror as he plunged towards an acid bath. Kadar banked in a valiant effort to scoop up his falling comrade. But before the white stallion could reach Sean, the attacking assassin blocked his path. Rearing up in mid-air, Kadar struck a lighting jab that knocked the assassin's leathery head back. Instantly, Kadar coiled his head back, and like some cobra struck. A quick snap of his twisted, ivory tusk thrust through the leathered hide of the assassin. The ivory spear ripped deep into the assassin's heart, killing it instantly. The black mass of leather that was once an assassin fell lifeless toward the acid waters below. Kadar glared down at Sean's now distant form as it fell closer and closer to the churning waters. Tipping his head low, he lunged towards Sean. The unicorn's wings arched back, making his body sleek against the wind. Kadar came at him with incredible speed. The stallion was focused so intensely that he didn't see the one-eyed assassin. The White stallion and black assassin collided in a thunderous sound that crashed over the turbulent waters.

About the Book
Sean Riley sat on the cold, muddy ground of the Arbor Jungle. Dirt covered fingers lifted to his forehead, pushing back his dark hair. He could hear the small troop of elves talking in urgent voices off to his right, yet his own mind refused to focus on any one thought. Only a few short days ago Sean had been joking around with his father. Now the dream all made sense. Sean wished that he could go back in time and pay heed to those dreams, but it was too late for that now. Now his father lay in a coma at Sean’s feet. His father had tried to escape to earth, but Neffis had found him. The elves that brought him to this dimension tell Sean that it is his destiny to face the evil Neffis. But is that truly his purpose here in returning to the elves?
About the Author
Brian D. McCoy grew up in Waukesha Wisconsin. As a youth Brian struggled with reading in school, and it was only his love of gymnastics competition that drove him to continue on through college. While attending college, he was diagnosed as having the learning disability of dyslexia. Brian started writing his first book, Return to the Elves, as a testament to himself that no disability could hold him back. After college he moved to Northern California where he now teaches elementary school. Mr. McCoy has completed two books, Return to the Elves, and My Adventures with Chickenspike. He is currently working on his third book, Red. He has also developed an educational fantasy game, The Teacher's Dungeon, which spans the curriculum for grades four through six.
